You can even place them in your bathroom; while gliding into the bath tub the lovely fragrant candles will entice your senses. Let your life be illuminated with the glow of your self-made candles.

10-step candle making guide

  1. Get started. You will need few materials like – wax, candle colors, bowls, candle thermometer, stove, large coffee can, paraffin wax, pot big enough to accommodate coffee can even when half filled with water, fragrant oil or concentrated scents, wick (remember 1’’ wick means 1’’ candle) and wooden spoon.
  2. Cut the wax chunk into small pieces, so that the melting process turns fast.
  3. It’s time to melt the wax. Don’t put it directly on stove, it will catch fire. Place the wax in coffee can. Fill half of a pot with water and then place the can in it. Now put the pot on stove. Keep stirring the wax with spoon until it reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit and melts completely. Use the thermometer to check the correct temperature. Make sure wax doesn’t get too hot.
  4. Now add color to the wax. Put colors slowly until you get the desired shade. Take a spoonful wax and cool it off to verify the color of cold wax as the wax color turns little lighter when it cools down.
  5. Now add the fragrant oil or scent. Don’t put too much oil as it will be difficult to burn the candle. Keep stirring at the temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit until all ingredients are blended nicely.
  6. Take a wick which should be double of the desired candle’s length in addition to 3 inches for holding. You can make two candles at a time. Now fold it in the center by making it doubled over your finger and dip in the melted wax. Dip it for few seconds, then let it cool off for few minutes. Repeat the process. Make sure the wet candles don’t touch each other. When few layers of wax are formed, after every dip in wax cool it off by dipping in cold water.
  7. Once the candles reach the desired thickness and volume, roll them on a smooth surface to get rid off the lumps.
  8. Again heat up the wax at the temperature of 182 degrees Fahrenheit. Dip the candles once more fore few seconds and allow them to cool off.
  9. With a sharp knife trim the candles’ bottom to get the desired straight base.
  10. Hang the candles from wick for drying. When the candles are completely dry cut the wick in between to separate the candles.

Your bright colorful, fragrant candles are ready to adorn your home with beauty and grace.
