-Using too many keywords is one of the number one mistakes that many Adwords users make.  You want to stay away from generic keywords, and stick only to keywords that directly pertain to your ad.  Otherwise you’ll have a lot of clicks from readers that were misled, that don’t amount to anything.

-Remember to use your relevant keywords in your ad title and description.  A big mistake is forgetting to do this, and then you have an ad that doesn’t seem to pertain to what a reader is currently surfing.  The whole point of Adwords is to hitch onto keywords on other sites for your ads.  Leaving those keywords out means that your ad is less likely to be noticed.

-Walk that fine line between clarity and keyword density.  Your keyword should be prevalent so that any searchers have no trouble running into your ad, but don’t overload your statements so that the keyword is senselessly repeated too many times.

-Always track your results, if one keyword set up isn’t working switch to a different one.  There’s no sense in continuing a campaign that hasn’t been fruitful.  That’s just beating a dead horse.  Instead, try different things if you’re not seeing the results you want.

Improve Your Website’s Google Ranking http://itlist.com/improve-your-websites-google-ranking/ http://itlist.com/improve-your-websites-google-ranking/#comments Wed, 09 Dec 2009 22:22:35 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2077 Getting more traffic to your website means improving your site’s Google ranking.  If you don’t rank well with Google, chances are your site is going to be buried behind thousands of others that have higher rankings.  The only way to get your ranking higher, is to play by the rules, and satisfy all of Google’s requirements to the best of your ability.  Here are a few ways you can do just that.

One of the key factors in how Google ranks a website, is how many other websites link back to your site.  That means networking.  Networking is an long established tool to build website traffic.  The more websites you find that are similar to yours, that are willing to exchange links, the higher your traffic is going to become.  Google ranks how well you are networked, and rewards those who network effectively.

The IP addresses of websites linking back to yours also has an effect on Google’s ranking system.  The more different IP’s that link to you, the better.  Multiple links from the same IP aren’t really factored in, as they could be considered duplicates, or falsified links.

Keyword density is also of high importance.  You want to use as many keywords as possible, without letting the quality of your content suffer.  The more keywords you have that relate to common searches, the higher Google is going to rank you.  As long as your content applies to what searchers type when searching, the more Google is going to be partial to ranking your site highly.

Make sure that you properly format your page titles to incorporate keywords.  Google puts a huge importance on what sort of keywords are in your title.  So make sure you use the important keywords that are specific to the topics you are touching upon.  Don’t be too generalized, and use specific terms that relate to your website, and what readers would be searching for.

A Billion-Year-Old Piece of Information http://itlist.com/a-billion-year-old-piece-of-information/ http://itlist.com/a-billion-year-old-piece-of-information/#comments Sun, 31 May 2009 18:01:13 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1372 If you are given a task to save some valuable information for one billion years from now, what will you do? Where will you store it? Will you put the information in bits and store it on some memory card, optical drive, hard drive, flash card, or will you rely on atoms and write it down on reams and reams of paper? Let me guess, your instinctive response will be to save the valuable information in bits, as you believe the information stored in digital format lasts forever, right? Wrong! This time again the conventional wisdom has let you down. Then how will we save it? In written words? The answer again is no.

The two ways that we have now are not good enough to store information for one billion years. Let me give you some reality check: information stored on today’s memory cards is only good enough for 10-30 years. The information on such devices will not see the light of the first day of thirty-first year, but if the information is stored in atoms, in written words on papers then it lasts for around 1000 years. The proof of it is the book written 900 years ago by William the Conqueror of England, so, for 1000 years atoms will do but what about one billion years? And what about information stored in bits? Why they are so fugacious?

The life expectancy of information stored in bits is inversely proportional to the density of information stored. The denser the information is packed the sooner it will fade away. The information industry is aware of this, but strangely enough, every year the new gadgets and devices are coming up that require denser and denser storage of information to function. Hence, the newer your device is, the quicker you will lose the information from it.

Do not get dishearten, not everything is that bleak. Scientists from the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and the University of California in Berkeley have devised a way to keep the information stored for at least one billion years, and they use iron-based nanoparticle enclosed in a carbon nanotube to achieve this remarkable feat. This nanoparticle, which is of the size of the one-fifty-thousandth of a human hair, will store information at high density: one terabyte per square inch. For now, we have found a way to store information for a billion year, who knows what comes next!

Ten factors that affect search engine ranking http://itlist.com/ten-factors-that-affect-search-engine-ranking/ http://itlist.com/ten-factors-that-affect-search-engine-ranking/#comments Sat, 28 Feb 2009 17:21:13 +0000 arshat http://itlist.com/?p=955

Here is the list of top 10 factors that affect search engine ranking.

1. Use of Keywords in Title Tag

If I am allowed to work on only one aspect of a site, I would work on the Title Tag . Put all your keyphrases in your title tag, but also remember not to overstuff it! For best results you gotta optimize each page individually.. Lets say your first page has information about “free antivirus” then you should have key phrases like – “free antivirus, download antivirus, best antivirus” etc. Lets say your second page has information about “firewalls” include keyphrases like “free firewall, best firewall” etc.

2. Keyword Use in Body Text

Now its pretty obvious that if your web page doesn’t contain any information about Antivirus but still contains key phrases like -– “free antivirus, download antivirus, best antivirus”, it aint gonna work!! The point being, please make sure that you have the text in the webpage that you have on your title tag!! Don’t worry about the density of the key words. There is no relation between the density of the keyword and its rank on the search engine

3. Relationship of Body Text Content to Keywords

Remember, google is google because its got some serious smart guys working for it, so don’t be under the impression that fooling them is gonna be easy. Just stuffing a key phrase into a completely unrelated page wont do you much good.

4. Keyword Use in Domain Name

Some disagree with the importance of this one, though I feel it does not play a major role, why take a chance? Especially if you want to start a new site.. That said, remember that you choose to lose more than gain if you have an established site with a good pagerank! Note that there are websites that offer excellent services when it comes to web hosting

5. Keyword Use in Page URL

Again different SEOs take different sides on the importance of this one. I believe it is of some importance, but doesn’t make sense to change the urls for an existing site with a decent pagerank.

6. Keyword Use in ALT Attributes and Image Titles

I think this is extremely important. Maybe even more important than url and domain name. Experince shows that image optimization is a wonderful way to make a page appear higher on the search list to a desired query

7. Keyword Use in H1 Tag

Inspite of critics deeming tweaking with H1 tags as useless, its been proved otherwise. Head up the body text with an H1 containing the keyphrase.

8. Keyword Use in H2, H3, H… Tags

Since we have used it in H1, why not use it in H2, H3, et al..

9. Keyword Use in Bold/Strong Tags

I deem this method as moderately important. It helps Google in analysing what your page is about and what can the reader expect to find on it.

10. Keyword Use in Meta Description Tag

Definitely important. Each page should have a custom title and meta description tag. The ability of the Meta Tag to make it appear on the search list should not be underestimated.

All said and done, it should be remembered that CONTENT is the king!!
