For many American the worst is not over yet. They feel the economic recession is not over yet, as revealed by an opinion poll conducted by Harris Poll.

As much as 58% Americans do not believe that the economy is going to improve in coming year — 33% thinks it will stay all the same, but 25% fears the worse has yet to come. 10% of the respondents said they are not sure of the state of the economic affair in the United States. And only 32% showed confidence in the recovery. (See picture)

If we alter the timeline a bit then the figure is even more disheartening. Almost 80% (combined) of Americans believe the economy will not improve in the next six months — 50% believe the economy will not change in the next 6 months, whereas, 29% fear the worse may happen.

It is on the administration and regulator to falsify the belief of more than 50% of Americans. They need to work hard to prove the skeptic wrong.

In which group I fall?

Well, I am an optimist.

Why Traditional Advertising Still Not Dead? http://itlist.com/why-traditional-advertising-still-not-dead/ http://itlist.com/why-traditional-advertising-still-not-dead/#comments Sat, 23 Jan 2010 03:58:56 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2238 One line answer to this question would be: because it works dammit! Its effectiveness as a sales agent might be questionable, but among other things, it is a great way of building brand awareness. Advertising works may be not in the way a marketer desired, but it works.

What does advertising do?

  1. Advertising builds awareness about the product being advertised.
  2. It creates recognition for the brand.
  3. Reduce the fear of unfamiliarity, and testimonial advertising also works as social proof.
  4. It creates, nurture, and build emotional connection between the product and consumer.
  5. It provides reason for purchasing a product.
  6. It induces trial.
  7. It creates top-of-mind awareness for the brand being advertised.
  8. A beautifully done ad entertains public and create favorable environment that a marketer to seed the brand message.

What advertising cannot do?

  1. It cannot sell a product.
  2. It cannot create a loyal customer.
  3. It cannot manage a damaged reputation.
  4. It cannot build credibility.

It is the latter group of things that have made the advertising so infamous. Well, it is comment time now. What do you think, have advertising worked for your business?

What Freelancer Writers are Afraid of http://itlist.com/what-freelancer-writers-are-afraid-of/ http://itlist.com/what-freelancer-writers-are-afraid-of/#comments Thu, 24 Dec 2009 03:54:51 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2129 We all are afraid of something. Sometimes fear is good, it helps us from wandering off the track, but when it starts affecting our growth it becomes troublesome. This is true with freelance writers as well. They too are afraid, and this has nothing to do with their present condition. Even the experienced freelancer writers have these fears. The most common among them are described below.

Fear of unknown

Being afraid of things that we do not know is quite natural. It is human to be afraid of things that we do not have any knowledge about. Each one us has this fear. This fear is natural, but it tastes sour when it starts intimidating and thwarting our development. When a newbie faces this fear he freezes, but when a seasoned professional faces this fear he deals with it.

Fear of not earning much

This is the fear that has stopped many deserving men and women from achieving what they always wanted. Having a financially stable life is everyone’s desire, but if this desire is pushing you to get everything quick and now then you should stop to think. You will get what you deserve, but not now. It will take some time. We all have to start small.

Fear of not getting enough work

This fear is related to the fear we discussed above. Not having enough work to justify the career change freezes the new entrants. When starting out you may not get enough work, but as you establish yourself in the field, you start getting works.

Fear of not getting recognized

People in general seek recognition from family, friends, and neighbors. They want their jobs to be recognized and respected. For undeveloped mind, freelance writing may not be a career to respect, and sadly most of the people have that. This thing keeps many from opting for this career, despite all its lucrative benefits.

Don’t Be Afraid To Lose Your Job http://itlist.com/dont-be-afraid-to-lose-your-job/ http://itlist.com/dont-be-afraid-to-lose-your-job/#comments Sun, 09 Aug 2009 01:00:10 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1565 The economy has slowly begun to make slight recoveries, and jobs are also slowly being replaced, allowing for the many people without jobs to find new opportunities.  But that doesn’t mean the fear of losing your job has gone away.  The economy is still in pretty rough shape, and the numbers aren’t exactly improving by a large amount.  No doubt everyone is still very afraid of losing the little that they’ve worked so hard to earn as things stand now.  But you can’t let that fear of losing your job affect your life, or else you could find yourself in a very unfortunate situation, just the sort you were scared of in the first place.

Being afraid to lose your job can affect your performance at work, and how well you function in the other aspects of your life, from social activities to health and well being.  Fear of something like job loss is extremely stressful, putting your body through a whole torrent of negative emotions and thoughts, affecting your life in any manner of negative ways.  So your first step to combat those negative emotions?  Control what you experience concerning the economy.

It’s good to keep tabs on what’s going on in the world, but if you find a lot of stories about economic tension, try to avoid them.  You know the state of the economy, there’s no reason you need to be reading about it every five minutes.  By sort of ignoring the negative news, you’re not allowing yourself new information to worry over, decreasing the likelihood that you will be stuck thinking about how horrible life could turn if you lost your job.

Make a good plan for how to conduct your job search should you lose your job.  This way you have a back up plan at the ready, so the blow of actually losing your job wouldn’t be as harsh of one.  Being prepared is never a bad thing, and you’ll feel better knowing that you’re ready for anything, no  matter what the economy throws at you.

Finally, just stay positive.  Positive thinking is the best way to reduce stress and fell better.  Stress is usually derived from negative thinking, so instead of worrying about life without your job, think about how glad you are to still have a job despite the economic turmoil.

Anonymity: the treasure of the Internet http://itlist.com/anonymity-the-treasure-of-the-internet/ http://itlist.com/anonymity-the-treasure-of-the-internet/#comments Mon, 29 Dec 2008 18:49:11 +0000 GoniG http://itlist.com/?p=34 In a social and cultural context in which the majority of the population is surveyed, classified and controlled as if a sheet inside a vast database is involved anonymity seems to be a dream as appetizing as unworkable. At the same time, one aspect of them in a more recurrent in computer-mediated communications is providing precisely, a way of networking anonymously. This is at least a general view among many of the users and most of the mass media, with more or less rigor, address the issue. However, this view is not fully shared by all. Both those with sufficient expertise, as several scholars of these social phenomena, they think that a complete anonymity on the Internet may not be possible or desirable. On the following pages will address various areas related to anonymity in computer-mediated communications: information that gives any machine when it establishes a connection to World Wide Web and various forms of control such information and potential dangers that lurk a connection with an IRC server and, finally, some considerations about the type of anonymity that we want and / or fear.

One of the great attractions of the Internet, in all its facets, is that it allows us to observe without being observed. A behavior that some qualify as’ voyeuristic ‘can be identified in the “innocent” and increasingly common practice of anyone who surf the World Wide Web, for any purpose. Anyone seeking information specialist, who reads the newspaper, who visit a page erotic or pornographic or who sailed without any destination tend to experience the power of stillness do and see without feeling watched. Few believe in the possibility that his steps are not as secret as imagine. The computer monitor becomes a window to a world that is paralyzed before our eyes and does not have the audacity to ask. The apparent calm that gives absolute privacy, together with the strength and the vastness of the Internet are good arguments for enjoying the Network in all its glory and without strings attached.

However, there is something that many users ignore: the ‘footsteps on the path’. There are plenty of ways in which our ‘footsteps on the path’ reveal information about ourselves. To launch an Internet connection means that a stable link between two points. One, the visible, is the destination point. Another, which is often ignored is the point of origin of the connection. Without going too far in technicalities or exceptions, we will say that the point of origin of an Internet connection is the IP address. The IP address of a computer connection (the computer, modem, phone line …) is fixed in much of the time. In other varies slightly, often due to the type of supplier that has been hired (dynamic IPs). The IP address is unique and identifies the origin of the connection. The IP address, therefore, is the minimal information provided by any user to connect to the Internet. Minimal information that can lead enrolled some more data, such as the organization or country of origin. These are the ‘footsteps on the path’ that nourish any hits put on a website and that slightly more exploited, used, for example, to develop more comprehensive statistics that generates a counter-type ‘Net stat’ that can be in any personal page for free.

The fact ‘grant’ this information need not be feared, but that can be used for ‘benign’. This is the base from which he worked on the project “The web sociable” at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Despite the fact that his project did not have the acceptance and success that their designers, Judith Donath and Niel Robertson, imagined, “the Web sociable” was an interesting idea, as it sought to exploit such information to Web sites that want to participate the initiative proved much more socially interactive: that the visitors would coincide simultaneously on a website could establish connection between them. Since a good part of the websites exist to provide information on very specific aspects of interest in this project is designed around software applications that took advantage of the data provided by the IP address for users to know if there were more people consulting page simultaneously, and opened up the ability to chat with them. Thus, browsing the World Wide Web became a little less lonely and more collaborative, allowing users could help each other to find what they were looking for, exchanging views, ideas and tips. An implementation date of these ideas is the software ‘ODE’ (see the list of addresses).

Another example of how the surfer is leaving his footprints behind his supposedly anonymous walks by the World Wide Web is the functioning of the so-called ‘cookies’. The base model of cookie is a text file that is entered in the user’s computer by some websites you visit it. Since they are only text files, they can not contain viruses or damaging the system. In any case, are clear limits to the privacy of the environment, since it works by compiling and organizing your personal information? Many cookies, the so-called ‘persistence’s’-usually configured to stay on a user’s system for months or even years. The cookies contain information on previous visits that the user has made to that page and this information can be more or less abundant, depending on the use that he wants to give. In this way, can consist of a simple invisible code assigned to each visitor to account for how many users turn to page after it has been discovered, purely for the purpose of internal control and calculation or it could be a long list of data that have been supplied to the website with a detailed recounting of page views, personality profiles, or objects purchased by the user is interested, and so on.
