Don’t let your wrong moves and silly answers mess up the much awaited success. We often unknowingly commit few common mistakes and lose the opportunity forever. After reading this article, be careful next time, while an interview knocks your door. Here are some commonly made mistakes at the interview desk.

Grabbing seat

Often interviewee is extremely nervous while seeing the interviewer for the first time and forgets basic manners by grabbing a seat without recruiter’s permission. You may not notice it, but your interviewer will and find it extremely ill-mannered. Wait for the interviewer to sit and then take your seat with his or her permission. Sit only after you greet the interviewer.

Wandering eyes

Wandering eyes right from interviewer’s tie to shoes, from ceiling to the window is extremely disturbing for the interviewer. It not only reflects candidate’s lack of attention, but also lack of confidence. Look straight into interviewer’s eyes and don’t let your eyes wander here and there. It’s extremely annoying. Look straight into interviewer’s eyes and don’t let your eyes wander here and there. The interviewer may try to find out what are you observing here and there. Make maximum eye contact, but don’t gaze at the interviewer either.

Too much personal talks

No interviewer appreciates personal talk. So avoid it. Even when asked to describe yourself, don’t include too much of personal details like where you were born, where you went for last holiday, what you do in your free time, your relationship status and the like. Even you can avoid too much of personal queries, simply by saying you don’t feel your personal life has anything to do with your professional field. Honesty will impress the right interviewer and he or she won’t intervene into your personal life either.

Fidgeting

Often in nervousness we start fidgeting objects and unknowingly it draws attention of the recruiter. Avoid this habit.

Dumb queries

Just for the sake of asking questions don’t shoot your questions to the interviewer. Ask only smart, interesting and valid questions. Don’t ask stupid questions like ‘Will I get this job?’ or ‘What’s your budget?’ It shows immaturity.

How to Grab a Dream Job – Part 2 http://itlist.com/how-to-grab-a-dream-job-part-2/ http://itlist.com/how-to-grab-a-dream-job-part-2/#comments Sun, 09 Jan 2011 17:28:00 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/how-to-grab-a-dream-job-part-2/ In continuation to the last article about how to grab a dream job, this article includes many more tips regarding how to grab a dream job. Cultivate these habits.

Competency

Don’t forget quality can never be compromised in the long run. So to grab your dream job, you have to be competent enough to get it. How good are you for the dream job? Are you capable enough to do the job effectively? If you are applying for a graphic designer’s position, you should be skilled enough in graphic designing. You may be asked for a design portfolio besides creating an instant nice design on computer within the given time. Don’t forget, excellence can’t be ignored by anyone. So become competent enough to grab the dream job.

Do your research

It’s always advisable to do your research about the company before going for the interview. Go to its website, consult people. Know its mission, vision, clients, achievements, history, future plans etc. Your thorough knowledge about the company will impress the interviewer. It shows your interest and knowledge. Do your research about the industry and other competitors in the market too.

Stay honest

Integrity is very important. Maintain transparency. Don’t lie to the interviewer. Whether it’s regarding your age, educational qualification, job experience or reason for new job hunt – maintain transparency everywhere. Even if truth is not glorious at times, a good interviewer will definitely appreciate and value your honesty.

Don’t overcharge

Never quote a salary which is much ahead of standard fee. Definitely ask what you deserve, but not much ahead of standard salary. Don’t under price but don’t overprice either. Before quoting price know comparative prices in the industry. Even if you don’t get salary as per your own wishes, join. People will soon recognize your worth and provide what you deserve.

These few simple tips are highly effective. Targeting dream job is easy, but for acquiring the dream job one has to cultivate these good habits and evolve as a better professional. Start preparing yourself today; soon you will be ahead of others.

Formulating A Career Action Plan http://itlist.com/formulating-a-career-action-plan/ http://itlist.com/formulating-a-career-action-plan/#comments Tue, 20 Oct 2009 20:34:34 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1863 Creating a career action plan is important for everyone.  No matter the career, your planning will be better served with a CAP.  This will give you a comprehensive guideline that you intend to follow.  By having this path set before you, you can be better aware of your goals.  Making the path allows for you to keep sight of what you want out of your career, and the ways to accomplish those goals.  So it only makes sense to sit down and write one out.

The career action plan is exactly what it sounds like.  A well laid plan on how to get your career from point A to point B, and beyond.  You should have a well researched path that you intend to follow.  One that works for your skill set, and commitment.  You’ll have to take into account the workload you’re willing to accommodate, and how you intend to achieve your intended ends.

Following the typical CAP format you should start out by mapping your objectives.  Write down what you hope to achieve, from pay scale, to promotions, to education.  Figure out what you want to put in, as well as what you want to get out of your career.

From there, in the next section detail all of your previous experience, and the skill set that you’ve developed.  Whether through work history, or education, write down what has set you up for your career.

Now you calculate your weaknesses, and honesty counts here.  Nobody is going to be looking at this play besides you, so be honest. Failing to record a truthful account of your weaknesses leads to a plan that might not work for you.  So figure out your shortcomings so that you may learn to work around them.  That’s all part of your plan, and you’ll be better set by knowing where you may fall short, so that you can prevent that, or work around them.

Finally you plot out your goals.  Take the information you have already written, and maneuver how it fits into the goals you want to achieve.  In this step you can map out exactly how to go about making your goals come to fruition.  Through careful planning here, you’ll have a good idea of what you need to do, and a decent time table of when you can expect to accomplish some of those goals.

Integrity Selling: Why People fail to make a Sale? http://itlist.com/integrity-selling-why-people-fail-to-make-a-sale/ http://itlist.com/integrity-selling-why-people-fail-to-make-a-sale/#comments Sun, 19 Apr 2009 14:48:00 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1294 Everyone around is a salesman yet selling is considered to be a very tough job, why? Actually, the problem is in the way we define selling. When we say selling or salesman, a figure starts forming in our mind, a picture of a person who is carrying a briefcase, donning a nicely ironed shirt and well-creased trousers, sporting a nearly perfect smile on the clean-shaved and well groomed look. So far so good, but this is not all. This image of a salesperson seldom produces any positive feeling in any of us. Almost all of us see a salesperson as a scrupulous person who is devoid of any sense of right and wrong, and as the person who is just concerned with making a sale, and has no regard for the buyer whatsoever.

Close your eyes for a while and think, will you like to do business with the person whom you do not trust? Will you put your hard earned dollars in the hands of a person whose intention is not to help you but just to take money out of your pocket? No, you will not do that! Then why do you expect your customer to behave differently, just because you are on the opposite side of the table? Well, no matter how many times you turn the table, and how many people you bring on the other side of the table, you cannot be successful in making a sustainable customer base.

There is only one golden rule of selling and that is honesty. Be honest and sell only the product your customer needs, not the product your company wants to push to every customer. This is what we call integrity selling. Integrity selling will not only build a reputation for you, but it will also give you a rock-solid foundation made of loyal customers to stand on.

Integrity selling is the only way to maintain a long sustainable base of customers. In order to be successful in applying integrity selling in your business, you genuinely need to believe in solving the customer’s problem. I am saying believing, not feigning to believe, as most sales people do. This is how you can build reputation for yourself and your business. Till the time you are concern with just meeting your target for the month or the quarter, you cannot succeed in winning the hearts of your consumer. You need to win a significant share of customers’ hearts to remain in the business for the long run. Integrity selling is indeed tough, but the return it fetches makes it worth trying. As said, integrity selling will build a long term reputation for you, and the more you practice it the more equity gets deposited to your reputation-bank, which in the long run will mean more business for you.

Let’s think over a very famous quote: you can cheat a few people for a long period of time, you can even cheat many people for a short period of time, but there is no way in which you can cheat everyone (or many people) for the longer period of time, it isn’t possible. If you are salesperson, always remember this and never ever try to sell lie. A lie can help you meet the immediate goal, but it will hurt you badly in the long run. It is always wise to fix your eyes on the long term results, short term results will never last.
