Improving Your Google PageRank http://itlist.com/improving-your-google-pagerank/ http://itlist.com/improving-your-google-pagerank/#comments Sat, 16 Jan 2010 07:39:56 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2196 Increasing your Google PageRank is extremely important if you want your website to appear in Google searches more often.  Google’s  PageRank feature is how Google will judge your website.  Your PageRank is based upon how many quality websites link to yours, thereby determining your sites importance from these statistics.  If you want your site to get more Google search attention, you have to have a decent PageRank.

So the best way to approach improving your PageRank, is simply by getting your website out there.  Network and exchange links with as many like minded sites and businesses as possible.  Try to search out sites with higher traffic volumes, and higher PageRanks, as these are the more likely to increase your individual PageRank.  The more quality websites that link back to yours, the better Google will view your site.  The importance of networking just can’t be overstated.  That’s your internet bread and butter, and the better networked you are, the better your website is going to perform.

Remember to use SEO (search engine optimization) for everything you write, as this helps with all things regarding Google.  Your PageRank is also more likely to be higher if you make effective use of SEO.  It will increase search engine success, and the popularity of your site.  Both of which you need to build your Google presence, and therefore your website’s overall presence.

But also remember that improving your Google PageRank isn’t as likely to increase traffic as SEO.  Just because your site has a higher PageRank, does not mean that you’re the most likely to pop up first with a given keyword.  The only way to make that work is SEO and linking to as many other popular websites as possible.  These will also build your PageRank, and should remain your focus for building website traffic.

Easy Ways For Students To Make Money http://itlist.com/easy-ways-for-students-to-make-money/ http://itlist.com/easy-ways-for-students-to-make-money/#comments Sun, 20 Dec 2009 23:34:10 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2107 If you find yourself strapped for cash, the internet is a great place to make a few extra dollars.  Creating a passive income can be very helpful in a bind, especially if you’re a college student.  Being a student, your workload is obscene and you just don’t have the time for a regular high paying job, if you want to maintain school success.  By exploring your options online, you can find some great ways to make money right from your computer, no matter where you are.

Think about writing articles for example.  There are quite a few websites that offer payment for submission of articles, as long as they meet website standards.  Places like Bukisa, and eHow are great places to publish a few articles, and depending upon popularity, rack up a decent paycheck.  Plus these articles stay up for a very long time, and you are paid a percentage of the page’s earnings.  So these turn into decent passive income makers, which you can use to make money without you having to put in extra work hours.

More ways to earn quick cash is to take advantage of work from home opportunities.  They don’t always pay a lot starting out, but the work is usually pretty easy.  Take for example, companies like to hire telecommuters for online Customer Service Representative positions.  All you have to do is take the initiative to find the work.  Search online CSR jobs, but stick to the more major companies, to make sure you don’t get scammed, or have your personal information stolen.

Finally, try writing blog posts for money.  There are a wealth of opportunities for finding blog work, where you could be paid as much as $5 for every blog post you submit.  Sites like Blogitive, Today.com, and work resources like Elance and oDesk also have great paid blog offers.  Blogging is easy, and who wouldn’t welcome the extra cash?

Should You Write An Ebook? http://itlist.com/should-you-write-an-ebook/ http://itlist.com/should-you-write-an-ebook/#comments Sun, 09 Aug 2009 00:57:21 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1562 Writing an ebook can be a fantastic way to establish yourself, or your blog.  Ebooks are growing in popularity every day, with the growing use of devices like Amazon.com’s Kindle, and the fact that practically everyone in the western world owns their own PC which is most likely connected to the internet.  Ebooks are practically no cost to produce and distribute, making them a very viable income source, as long as you know what you’re doing.  First off consider why you want to write an ebook.

Do you want to write a manual about a topic that you have some level of expertise concerning, like a guide of some sort?  There’s a huge market for that.  Or even if you’ve got a few creative ideas, and you want to try and get your own short story or novella published, also a huge audience waiting to get their hands on your material.  Or even if you just want to promote your blog, or some aspect of your business, an ebook could be the answer for you.  There are just a few guidelines you should follow.

First off, you’re asking someone to pay for the privilege of reading what you’ve written, so make sure you write something worth reading.  Don’t just write a glorified sales pitch that people have to pay to read, deliver real relevant content.  Remember, every reader that gives your book a shot has the chance of remembering your name and becoming somewhat of a fan for every future work that you produce.

If you’re writing to draw attention to your company or your blog, make sure that the ebook is still making the notice that you yourself are authoring the work.  This is still your words, presented to solve a problem, provide information, or entertain, and don’t forget that.  People are interested in what you’ve had to write, not who or what you’ve written the work for.

Finally, don’t make the purpose of your ebook to sell a product or service.  An honorable mention is okay, but the ebook itself needs to be it’s own entity.  You’re still providing people a service through the ebook, and looking to attract them to you through their enjoyment of your first project.  Don’t forget that point.  You’re not getting people to pay for a sales pitch, you’re just presenting one aspect of your expertise or talents that could influence them to look into the other projects of which you are involved.

Twitter for Writers http://itlist.com/twitter-for-writers/ http://itlist.com/twitter-for-writers/#comments Thu, 18 Jun 2009 02:47:39 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1402 Everyone is talking about 140-character revolution, and everyone is learning to convey the message in 140 characters. Thanks to twitter and other micro blogging services (like plurk), people at large are learning to say everything in 140 characters; to be more precise, everyone is learning to power-pack the 140 characters available to us.

For a writer, twitter can be useful in more ways than you think, and how you will use twitter depends upon the kind of writer you are. If you are a freelance writer who is just looking for some freelance writing assignments then twitter can not only help you promote your writing services. You can use twitter to remain constantly in touch with your existing clients or your ex-clients as well. It can also help you in getting new clients. Twitter can also be helpful for a writer who wants to get published. You can get the up-to-date information on the different publishing houses and what kind of novels they are planning to publish in the coming years. It will give you a fair idea about what clicks with a certain publishing house, and what gets thrown into trash bin. If you are a newbie then you can use the links shared on twitter to develop or polish your writing skills.

For a freelance writer or blogger who is finding it hard to get ideas for writing on a daily basis, twitter can work as a source for cracking ideas to write on. You can use twitter to see what people are talking about, and what is gaining popularity in your niche. If you are interested in using twitter as a writing idea generator then follow the following steps:

  1. Follow people working in your or any related niche.
  2. Find the articles from the links shared by people whom you follow.
  3. Scan the articles to estimate its worth.
  4. Shortlist the article or articles you want to read.
  5. Read the article shared
  6. Do a preliminary research on the topic discussed in the article to get a deeper understanding of the subject.
  7. Write down the main points you want to elaborate in your article or articles.
  8. Arrange the bullet points in the order in which they should appear in the final article or articles.
  9. Write the article.
  10. Proofread it.
  11. Publish it.
  12. Make a bit.ly link (like http://bit.ly/kdHRb)
  13. Tweet it.

Is A Netbook Right For You? http://itlist.com/is-a-netbook-right-for-you/ http://itlist.com/is-a-netbook-right-for-you/#comments Thu, 21 May 2009 22:12:10 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1352 Not everybody has the same high demands for computer usage.  In fact most need a home comp just to check email, chat online, and perhaps do a little banking and shopping.  If that’s all you’re doing at home a desktop or fully outfitted laptop seems a little pricey for the privilege.  But there is another option that’s been growing in popularity for some time now.  And that is the Netbook.

A Netbook is basically a smaller laptop, outfitted with less hard drive, processor power, RAM, and a smaller screen, just to outfit you with the basics necessary to use the internet.  As that’s essentially all a Netbook is for, but they are remarkably useful in that sense and purpose.  You don’t really need a load of extra features for your computer if all you’re going to do is use the internet, otherwise you’re paying too much for extras you don’t need that are only designed to jack up the price.

The other great thing about some Netbooks is that many of them have built in internet connections, meaning they go through a wireless network, like a cell phone on the 3G network, so that you can connect from anywhere.  Given a Netbook’s fantastically long battery life, you’ve got a machine that can connect from anywhere for long periods of time, making them extremely versatile and useful for conducting basic business on the go.

But then there’s the major problem with a Netbook.  They’re really only useful for conducting basic computer tasks, like your internet needs.  Anything to do with multimedia, games, or business that requires the use of different applications such as Microsoft Office Works becomes really difficult when applied to a Netbook.  The smaller screen makes using anything like Word a huge pain, as you’ll need to scroll around your typing a ridiculous amount.  And the smaller processor and storage space just doesn’t allow for running any program that requires a lot of real time memory.

So I would say Netbooks are all well and good for accessing the internet, but not really anything else.  Which is exactly what you should think about before purchasing one.  Sure a Netbook will end up being half the price of a much better full size laptop, but with that price difference drops off more than half the tasks that the laptop would be able to excel at, that you’ll find your Netbook can’t handle.

Optimizing Your Website’s Search Engine Effectiveness http://itlist.com/optimizing-your-website%e2%80%99s-search-engine-effectiveness/ http://itlist.com/optimizing-your-website%e2%80%99s-search-engine-effectiveness/#comments Fri, 03 Apr 2009 22:48:41 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1211 What’s the use of building a website for your business if nobody comes to view your site?  Well, there really isn’t any purpose, especially if you’re going to waste your efforts on a poorly designed site that can’t compete on search engines like Google and Yahoo!, for higher ranking in search results.  And there are quite a few low cost options for optimizing your webpage to function more effectively with search engines.

The number one tactic is picking appropriate keywords for any articles found on your site.  When somebody is looking to Google to find a product or service, they type a few words into Google’s search bar, and sift through the results that pop up.  Which is why you want to appropriately keyword all the content on your site by using terms most likely to be used when somebody is using a search engine.  For example, you want to use the same key phrase relatively often on a page, but not so often that the quality of your written content suffers.  Which means you want your title to involve the key phrase, as well as your Meta Tags, and any photographs on your site should be titled incorporating that same key phrase.

That way anybody who is looking for that specific thing, and types something similar to what your website offers into a search engine, your site is more likely to pop up.  And you want to title your images as such, because that way you can also swipe some traffic from anybody doing an image search, like Google’s or Yahoo!’s image search options.

Search engines also rank you on overall popularity, meaning if your website is found referenced on other websites, you’re more likely to feature well in their search results.  Which is why you want to network and exchange links with as many similar products and companies as you can.  While this sounds like a conflict on interest in most ways, it’s also a fantastic method to get your website out there, and the more people you attract, the more customers/interested parties you will have.

And finally don’t forget to make sure you’ve submitted your website’s main address as well as the address of every page therein to any search engine’s archives.  Google allows you to do this for free, which is what makes them one of your best low cost resources, whereas Yahoo! requires a fee to enter your website into their search result considerations.
