07 Jun 10 How to Develop an Impressive Personality?

Have you ever wondered what makes you counted in Tom, Dick and Harry and why ‘he’ steals every show? Well, don’t soothe yourself by calling him just ‘lucky’. Have you ever thought how he manages to spread his magnetic charisma all around, whether in professional or personal life? I am sure, you were floored too. You secretly admire him and wish to be in his shoes. Don’t you? Well, let’s face the truth. It’s his personality that charms all around, that woes his girlfriend, his colleagues, his clients, his friends and all.

Well personality can be in terms of charm of talking, sense of humor, grace of manner, intelligence, depth of knowledge, warm attitude. No one can have it all. So why not bring out the best in you and sharpen the blunt side. Even if you are not born with it, you can surely groom yourself and develop a good persona.

First of all, develop a positive attitude towards life, in every meaning. Be optimistic, hopeful and energetic. If you are affected by pessimists it’s time to change your company. Develop a goal, an idol in your mind. Decide what you wish to be like. And start working towards it with dedication and sincerity. Try to face strangers and people whom you always wanted to avoid. The more adversities you face, the stronger you turn into. See, if your words could charm them. See if you could make them your well wisher. It will help you in both professional and personal life.

Develop the attitude to lead, rather than following always. You may have all qualities – good knowledge, good command on the language, right attitude but just the lack of guts to come forward or take proactive step could actually make you stand behind your competitor who is less deserving. Develop confidence, believe in yourself and take the initiative. Boost your leadership skill. Be punctual, disciplined, take initiatives, manage people, meet the deadlines. Soon your boss will count you in every serious decision. To prove yourself extend your hand. Responsibilities and duties will make you a stronger player.

Don’t worry upon the consequence before working towards it. Even if you are novice, don’t restrict yourself. Rather plunge into it, show your interest in the work at hand, learn, and follow others. Learning is a continuous process. Don’t limit yourself. It will overcome your personal shortcomings, boost your confidence and definitely sharpen your skills. And soon you will be master of the task. It’s applied everywhere in life – personal and professional sphere.

Don’t throw stones in the dark. A good personality reflects confidence and confidence stems from knowledge. Sharpen your knowledge. Knowledge automatically chisels body language, communication and mannerism. Knowledge of language, knowledge of human psychology, good communication can actually make you appear confident and well groomed.

Follow the leaders you idolize. Watch their actions, words, thoughts, deeds. Interpret them. Perhaps it could fetch some great ideas in your mind too. Inspiration is important for one to move on.

What are you waiting for? Start it right away!

19 May 10 What should be your Body Language at the Interview Table?

Your résumé is flawless, your academic record and experience have been good throughout, and you are just perfect for the job. Still every time you are rejected. Have you ever wondered what goes wrong at the interview table? It may be your body language, the non-verbal communication. Even brilliant knowledge is often marred by poor body language; as non-verbal communication accounts for 90% of the message that you send during interview.

If you are not confident enough about your body language take help of the following tips.

Before entering the room, take a look of yourself. Make sure your hands are dry, warm. Shake hands firmly, yet don’t overpower. Sit straight, yet comfortable. Erect posture reflects energy, enthusiasm, and self control. Don’t move quite often. Make yourself feel comfortable. Slouching posture doesn’t reflect a positive attitude. Sitting on edge of the chair is to be avoided, as it reflects nervousness and lack of self-confidence.

Make good eye contact, but avoid staring. Do not let your eyes wander. While answering questions look into the interviewer’s eyes. Even while listening to the interviewer maintain direct eye contact. It makes you appear confident, attentive and pleasant. Avoid aggressive stares, blinking often, wandering eye movements, staring below. Over eye contact can again make you appear bossy, challenging and seductive.

Control your hands by being aware of what you are doing with them. Set them free, loosely clasped in your lap or on the table. Keep hands off your face. Avoid folding hands near chest, it shows defensive attitude and mind blocks. Too much hands movement is distracting. Less of movement makes you look in control, confident and disciplined. Avoid putting hands in pocket.

Place your feet firmly on the ground and avoid fidgeting. Crossing legs are okay, but shouldn’t invite too frequent crossing and re-crossings. Crossing legs at ankles appear smart and professional. Leg movements are distracting. Point knees towards the interviewer.

Speak in a clear, controlled, well-modulated voice. Avoid monotone and same pitch. Breathe properly in-between. Tone should be professional and confident. Don’t let your personal emotions reflect in your voice or words. Smile and nod, but not too loud or often.

22 Jan 10 Avoid Being Burnt Out By Your Job

Getting jaded by your job is no good.  Makes you hate your job, and makes the work you have to slog through all the more difficult.  In a recession, where finding a new job is extremely difficult, you can’t really afford feeling burnt out at your job.  Managing your work, and environment is key to staying happy, and productive at your job.

Plan and prioritize your projects so that you don’t feel overwhelmed by having too many things to do at the last minute.  Figure out what you need to complete now, so that you can push a few things off until later.  By creating a schedule ladder of importance, you can focus on the tasks and complete them with plenty of time.  Taking the stress off, allowing you to relax a bit, and keeping you happy as well as productive.

Remember to take your breaks.  Even if you have a ton of work, and you want to skip a break to work through it, don’t!  Skipping your breaks will only make you feel more disheartened and overwhelmed.  Take that break so you can get some fresh air, maybe a cup of coffee, and relax for a few minutes.  You’ll feel better, and will work more effectively when you resume your duties.

Know when to ask for help.  Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s just finding a solution to a problem that you can’t solve yourself at the moment.  What’s worse that having to ask for help, is not getting your work done because you didn’t.  Failing on your own instead of succeeding with help should never sound like the better option.

Always stay polite and courteous no matter what.  Keeping in a positive mind with a positive attitude is the best way to work through the problematic times.  By staying positive you’ll feel better, as will the people around you.  You’ll all get more done, and you’ll be much less apt to get overwhelmed, or feel unhappy at your job.
