So obviously the first step to earning more money from your writing, is to write more.  Writing as much as possible is the truest way to get better, and to create enough content .  By writing more, you create more opportunities for yourself, by being more available.  The presence you make online is the most important factor at being a successful writer.  The more renown you have, more jobs will become available, and they will pay higher rates.

Take all the opportunities you can to read others writing.  Especially writing that’s in the same field as yours.  See what the competition is doing, and where the trends are in writing.  By participating in these, and using them to influence your topics and style, you stay current.  Staying current in an ever changing medium on the internet, is paramount. Especially if you hope to be successful.

Write outside your comfort zone to develop your skills.  By writing about topics, or in styles that you’re not familiar with, you grow as a writer.  This way you can use what you’ve learned in your own work.  You’ll be a more solid writer because of it, and your writing will reflect that.  There’s really no better way to find your own unique voice than to attempt everything you can.

Invest in yourself.  This means time and money.  Have faith that your hard work will pay off.  That’s why you are a writer, because you know where it can take you if you work hard.  So keep on going to that end.  You never know how far the road will take you, if you’re too afraid to invest the necessary efforts to get there.

Making Passive Income To Increase Your Savings http://itlist.com/making-passive-income-to-increase-your-savings/ http://itlist.com/making-passive-income-to-increase-your-savings/#comments Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:28:52 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1876 Making passive income beside having a regular full time job is a great way to save money.  Making passive income can help you retire earlier, live more comfortably, or just have a nice savings for a rainy day.  You never know when a rainy day could come in a recession like this.  So developing a passive income flowing into your bank account is a pretty good idea.

One good way to develop a little bit of money easily is through writing articles online.  There are a variety of websites that pay decently for articles.  You can find them fairly easily through any search engine, or job search engine.  They don’t usually pay enough for you to make a living from the articles alone, but they are quick to complete and pay a decent rate.  As these pile up over the years you’ll find your savings growing, and writing is a lot of fun.

Try blogging on for size.  A blog is a great way to build up a little money through advertising.  As long as you write quality content that keeps people reading, you’ll be successful.  Just network yourself, and use a program like Google’s Adsense to make the most out of your money.  They pay fairly well, and a successful blog could end up making you more money than your day job.

Finally, if you put in the work in article writing or blog writing, another great way to make extra money through those is through affiliate marketing.  This is where a company actually pays you to talk about their product.  You have to have a fairly popular blog, or be renown for your articles, but it’s a fast way to earn a lot of cash quickly.  Plus usually you get free products so that you can try them out before you write about them.  That’s a win-win scenario, and it puts more money in your savings account.

Creating Your Own IT Business http://itlist.com/creating-your-own-it-business/ http://itlist.com/creating-your-own-it-business/#comments Wed, 30 Sep 2009 21:05:03 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1771 Starting your own Information Technology business can be scary if you don’t know what you’re doing.  The best starting point for any business is planning.  Without having a good business model you’re almost guaranteed to fail in the end.  You have to have a strong outline to guide your actions down the road.  It’s just like driving in an area that you’re not familiar with, you’d want to have a GPS or at least a road map so you could find your way around.  The worst thing you could do is be lost trying to run your business.

So first things first, figure out where you want your IT business to focus.  By assessing your career goals and educational background, you can get a good feel for what you can accomplish in the industry.  Come up with a unique service that you can provide.  Something people would need, or something people didn’t even realize that they need.  Either way you can give yourself a good selling point to customers or clients.  Having a solid selling point is the basis of every business, as it’s hard to turn a profit if you don’t have any money flowing.

From there you want to make sure you have solid credentials within the field.  That means having an iron clad work history and academic accomplishments that would make someone what to look to you for a service.  If you find yourself lacking in either category, starting your own IT business probably isn’t for you.  When it comes to work history, you cannot be thought of too highly.  The more renown you can garner through your professional career, the better it will serve you in your own business venture.

From there you’ll have to apply for a business license.  You’ll have to look up the legal requirements in your area, and from there take the appropriate actions.  Usually you’ll have to fill out some forms regarding the nature of your business, as well as tax info.  In some cases you may even have to pay a fee.

Now you’ll have to set up an office, with your own equipment.   This is where you use your experience and education to take as little money as possible and turn it into a well functioning office.  Any money you spend is negative profit, so you want to be creative in how your money is spent.  Don’t allow quality to suffer to save yourself money, but use good judgment when it comes to spending your business money out of pocket.

Finally, you have to hire employees and determine the fees for your services.  This is also where your experience will come in handy.  To get the best employees you’ll have to offer salaries that are competitive with other companies in the IT field.  To find the best customers and clients, you’ll have to be competitive in those fees as well.  Use your experience to make informed decisions.  Then make sure you work hard to keep all those customers and clients coming back.
