But still, celebrities are confronted with constant threat of being replaced by a rival or new entrant or being forgotten by the people. Since people are too technology savvy these days, Internet is one good medium to come close to the people and keep up the popularity among fans and followers.

Here are some popular ways of celebrity promotion on Internet.

Own a Facebook page

There’s no other social networking site as powerful, as popular as Facebook. To reach out to the fans and keep them updated with the latest work a celebrity can own a page. It’s a great way to increase the fan and follower base. Just by putting a ‘like’ button the celebrity can achieve millions of followers. A celebrity can post his or her latest pictures, events to attend, achievements, recent offerings and work and all on his page, for the followers to cherish a piece of the celebrity’s life. A celebrity can also treat his fans and followers with regular status updates, reply to comments and frequent updates. It’s a great way to keep up the popularity high. One can do every bit of Facebooking from a mobile phone.

Twitter is magical

Twitter is one more platform to build up a huge base of followers. Twitter also offers high credibility by authenticating a celebrity with verified member status. Twitter is a great tool to let the world know what the celebrity is doing every moment, where he or she is heading to, what he is eating, whom he is meeting, what’s his plan for the day, whom is he dating and partying with. Such updates keep fans hooked onto Twitter, staying in touch with every bit of the celebrity. Twitter also allows celebrities to post personal pictures and upload posts immediately, even from mobile phone.

Blogging

Personal blog is one more personalized way of a celebrity to reach out to its fans and followers. Regular blog posts are a must to keep up the interest of its visitors. It’s like reflection of a celebrity where he or she can freely express his thoughts, ideas, goals, dreams – anything under the sun. Blogs are highly interactive as readers not only read actively, but also drop comments and come back regularly.

Is Copywriting Salesmanship in Words? http://itlist.com/is-copywriting-salesmanship-in-words/ http://itlist.com/is-copywriting-salesmanship-in-words/#comments Fri, 15 Jan 2010 23:21:16 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2193 Copywriting is salesmanship in print. This classic statement has been a cause for major debate between advertisement copywriters and client servicing guy or advertisement account management guy in almost every ad agency in the world. Copywriters hold that copywriting is close to a high art, if not a downright high art, whereas, the other group tries to convince them that copywriting is nothing but mere salesmanship, a way to sell a product.

Having sat on both sides of the table, I am pretty much in position to see both side of the picture, and from the position I occupy, both the groups are right. Copywriting is indeed salesmanship in words but it is no less an art. Although I will not qualify it as a high art, but will always give it the credit of being a commercial art.

As I see it, advertisement copy performs two specific functions:

  1. It attracts retain the attention of target audience by use of sight and sound.
  2. Create a ground (emotional ground) for marketer to pitch in his product.

An advertisement copy needs to be creative in order to reach these two goals and that too in very limited times (typically in 30 to 90 seconds or in a few square inches). Attaining any of the goal using graphs, charts, numbers, and presentation will not be possible, as each one of them lacks the ability to form any connection with the audience which a well-written advertisement has.

An advertisement tells a story: a story that converts features of a product into benefits for the audience; a story that helps audience make sense of data; a story that touches their emotional chord; a story that helps marketer sell his product.

Each one of them is important: no matter how creative an advertisement is, it will not be considered good, if it fail to sell.

Selling is the end goal of an advertisement copy, and creative story telling is the tool a copywriter uses to meet the goal.

Twitter Tools To Help You Succeed http://itlist.com/twitter-tools-to-help-you-succeed/ http://itlist.com/twitter-tools-to-help-you-succeed/#comments Thu, 14 Jan 2010 22:35:22 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2185 Using Twitter and building an audience are two things I’ve written about before.  But keeping innovative to maintain that audience is just as important.  Keeping people involved in your page isn’t always enough.  The mass audience tends to forget fairly quickly, so if you don’t change up your tweeting often, you can find yourself being ignored very quickly.  Changing with the times, and updating your account as often as possible are key to staying on top.

One of the best tactics to do that, is the use of sites like tweetlater.com, which allows you to set up tweets at any future date, time, etc that you choose.  Sites like these are a great tool to keep your tweets regular.  So if you know you’re going to be busy later, or if you have a great idea now, you can always save them to use at a different time.  Keeping your tweets coming regularly, and keeping them all stellar, is the best way to keep interest.

Other tools like Twazzup lets you track hashtags, allowing you to see what’s going on in relation to your tweets.  This is extremely useful so that you can see who is re-tweeting your hashtags, and what context they’re being reused.  This can help you formulate strategies by sticking to campaigns that tend to be more successful than others.

Don’t forget to make use of tools that asses the market you’re trying to reach as well.  Services like the Forrester Profile Calculator help you find where and how potential customers are looking for information.  Making use of these can really help you grow your page, because you’ll know just how to target that demographic that’s most important to your page.

Finding them is easy enough, but remember that you have to keep writing interesting and engaging tweets to keep them there.  Holding attention in the long run is much more difficult that gaining attention at first.

What is SWOT Analysis? http://itlist.com/what-is-swot-analysis/ http://itlist.com/what-is-swot-analysis/#comments Sat, 26 Dec 2009 03:41:24 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2131 SWOT analysis is a tool used by marketer to assess the health of the product vis-à-vis the market. This is a very important tool that gives a marketer a complete idea about the product ecosystem. SWOT stands for:

  • S – Strength
  • W – Weakness
  • O – Opportunity
  • T – Threat

Strength and weakness are internal elements, which mean they are inherent to the product or organization. And opportunity and threat are external elements, which mean they are not inbuilt in, but are outside of the product or organization.

Opportunity is presented by the market, whereas, your competitors (both direct and indirect) can be a threat.

Benefit of SWOT analysis

  • It helps you find out the opportunity that you can use to maximize the market penetration of your product or services.
  • It helps you gauge your competition, and tells you what to avoid.
  • It also brings the weakness of your product on the table, which you can eliminative before reaching to the market.
  • SWOT analysis will help you make a better decision.

How to do SWOT Analysis?

Step 1: Find the strengths of your product

Step 2: Find the weaknesses of the product you are offering.

Step 3: Find the need gap (opportunity) in the market, based on the strength of your product.

Step 4: List the potential threats that you might face, if you cash in on the opportunity.

Notes:

  1. 1. Always Use Bullet points to do the SWOT. There is no need to write long descriptive points.
  2. 2. Do not reverse the order. Always start with analyzing S and W elements of SWOT followed by the analysis of O and T elements.

A parting thought

SWOT analysis is just a tool, and how well you use the tool will decide what result you will get from it. It is easy to get biased towards one’s own product and organization, but you should avoid this trap. Stay objective and stay focused when doing a SWOT analysis of your product or organization.

Improve Your Website’s Google Ranking http://itlist.com/improve-your-websites-google-ranking/ http://itlist.com/improve-your-websites-google-ranking/#comments Wed, 09 Dec 2009 22:22:35 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2077 Getting more traffic to your website means improving your site’s Google ranking.  If you don’t rank well with Google, chances are your site is going to be buried behind thousands of others that have higher rankings.  The only way to get your ranking higher, is to play by the rules, and satisfy all of Google’s requirements to the best of your ability.  Here are a few ways you can do just that.

One of the key factors in how Google ranks a website, is how many other websites link back to your site.  That means networking.  Networking is an long established tool to build website traffic.  The more websites you find that are similar to yours, that are willing to exchange links, the higher your traffic is going to become.  Google ranks how well you are networked, and rewards those who network effectively.

The IP addresses of websites linking back to yours also has an effect on Google’s ranking system.  The more different IP’s that link to you, the better.  Multiple links from the same IP aren’t really factored in, as they could be considered duplicates, or falsified links.

Keyword density is also of high importance.  You want to use as many keywords as possible, without letting the quality of your content suffer.  The more keywords you have that relate to common searches, the higher Google is going to rank you.  As long as your content applies to what searchers type when searching, the more Google is going to be partial to ranking your site highly.

Make sure that you properly format your page titles to incorporate keywords.  Google puts a huge importance on what sort of keywords are in your title.  So make sure you use the important keywords that are specific to the topics you are touching upon.  Don’t be too generalized, and use specific terms that relate to your website, and what readers would be searching for.
