There is a reason; rather, there are reasons behind writing articles for other websites, which I am going to discuss in this blog post. We call it article marketing.

3 Benefits of article marketing

Direct Traffic: A highly optimized article written with a tightly focused long tail keyword will bring people to your website through the links you are allowed to post either in the body or in the resource box of the article. This kind of traffic never stops. How many people will click on your link will depend upon your quality of article, quality of anchor text, length of the article as well as on how you have formatted your article.

Backlink

After content, there is nothing as valuable on the Internet as is the incoming links also known as backlinks. It is on the number as well as the quality of backlinks that your search engine ranking depends. Even if you do not get traffic, your article is still doing a lot by providing you backlinks to your website. Generally only 2 backlinks are allowed from one article.

Money

I am not talking about the money you will earn as a result of above activity, but I am talking about the money you will receive for writing articles for sites like hubpages. This is cool isn’t it? You are getting money (revenue share) for the article you are writing to get backlinks and traffic!

These are the three major benefits of article marketing. What else do you think should be added to this list? Can you add any?

Starting An Internet Writing Career http://itlist.com/starting-an-internet-writing-career/ http://itlist.com/starting-an-internet-writing-career/#comments Wed, 20 Jan 2010 21:13:32 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2228 Writing on the internet, and expecting to get paid for your work, isn’t easy.  Most people who don’t have experience in the field may think that setting up a blog, and then getting some traffic is enough to make a living, but it isn’t.  In truth you have to work at it, craft your ability, and be prepared to go through some rough patches.  How you work through these, and adapt your writing ability, are the keys to your success.

The biggest part about being successful writing is pretty much just being diligent.  You have to work at any career, and writing on the internet is no different.  You can’t allow yourself to second guess your career choice, or give up when the assignments seem too few and far between.  Something has to break eventually, but if you give up, you’ll never get that opportunity.

Learn how to use keywords, and to write SEO.  Search Engine Optimization is the most important technique for any internet writer.  If you want your articles to garner attention, and be read by the mass public, you need them to get noticed on search engines.  Because sites like Google operate searches by using keyword recognition, you need to have your articles formatted properly, and with the correct sprinkling of keywords.

Make sure that you make friends within the industry as well.  Network, network, network so that you can connect to as many job providers and writers as possible.  These are the people that have and will know about the best jobs.  Getting connected to them will open up as many doors as possible, and really get your career moving.

As long as you work hard, and are diligent, you can succeed.  Just remember to keep at it, and don’t give up on writing.

Creating A Domain For Your Company http://itlist.com/creating-a-domain-for-your-company/ http://itlist.com/creating-a-domain-for-your-company/#comments Thu, 14 Jan 2010 22:38:35 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2187 Starting your own website is easy.  If you have an idea for a business, a blog, or just want to make a resource for a person, place or thing offline, making a site isn’t difficult.  Writing creative, and engaging content, and building an audience is the difficult part.  But first steps first, how do you go about setting up a website?

Well, you have to think up a great domain name.  Your domain name is important, so you don’t want to take this one lightly.  Your domain name helps to register your unique brand with your users, and search engines, and is the beginning of the description of your website.  You want to pick something short and relevant, that’s also easy to spell and remember.  This way you’re more likely to gain memory recognition from your users, and anyone searching a web page is less likely to misspell your domain on Google.

Now that you’ve got a good domain name, you need somewhere to host that domain.  There are a variety of website companies that offer such services, for a nominal fee.  You’ll have to pay for registration, as well as maintaining that domain name every year.  While you’re purchasing the name, you’ll also want to look into data storage, as you have to have storage in order to put anything on your website.

Most companies that offer domain registration also offer data storage plans.  All have varying levels of cost, and you’ll have to factor in your companies needs when deciding which service is for you.  Factor in how much data, including photos and media you want to store on the page.  You also need to think about what sort of traffic you will be expecting.  Exceeding your traffic bandwidth is usually penalized by extra fees being charged to your account, so think carefully.

Now that you’ve got the site, remember that your engaging content is what’s really going to drive traffic.  Making the page available isn’t even half the battle.  Building a page that people legitimately want to visit is the real war.

Making Each Tweet Matter http://itlist.com/making-each-tweet-matter/ http://itlist.com/making-each-tweet-matter/#comments Tue, 12 Jan 2010 17:50:46 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2176 I wrote about using Twitter to build your business interests before.  But that information is almost useless if you don’t know how to write effective tweets.  You have to know what you’re doing, and the inner workings of Twitter, in order to garner the most attention.  The biggest part of building interest and your account, is using your tweets as effectively as possible.

Building an audience isn’t so much about what you write yourself, but how you communicate.  Your Twitter account, if you’re using it to sell an idea, business, or product, needs to become a community forum.  Your tweets are only useful if you can guarantee people are reading them.  The way to do that is to build followers, and the best way to build followers is getting them involved.

Make use of Twitter’s search function.  See what people are saying involving your concepts or business, and reply to them through your page.  Ask questions, or comment on tweets that they’ve made regarding you.  Start a running dialog, so that they’ll gain more interest and also mention you on their page, which will also build interest with a new audience.

Consider how useful the ability to re-tweet really is.  By re-tweeting you draw attention to a comment someone else made, and put your own spin on the material.  This will be noticed by the original tweeter, and your audience.  Both can work to build the traffic on your page, and the more meaningful views you’ll garner.

Finally, everyone likes pictures, especially search engines.  The more pictures you use, the more people will be drawn to your page.  I’m not talking about pictures of anything.  But try to upload meaningful and visually insightful pictures that relate to your Twitter page as often as possible.  These will get more comments, and more chances for re-tweets.  Both of which are necessary to build your page.

Earning Money With A Free Blog http://itlist.com/earning-money-with-a-free-blog/ http://itlist.com/earning-money-with-a-free-blog/#comments Wed, 06 Jan 2010 20:34:46 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2161 Practically everyone has a free blog by now.  Most of us blog as a hobby, or out of a need to express something to the outside world.  But have you ever thought about turning that into a source of passive income?  The free blog that you keep right now could be easily converted into your own private gold mine, with little extra effort on your part.

Keep in mind that content is key.  Converting a free blog into a money making blog is a long difficult process, but one that you complete by putting the work in.  Make sure that your blog has an attractive and visually appealing template.  Something that makes a user feel comfortable, and that allows your blog to be easily read.  A safe bet is to use cooler colors, as they are more calming, instead of anything too vibrant.

Your writing will also need a little bit of an upgrade as well.  You’re not just writing for yourself anymore, you’re writing to get people to find your blog and remain interested.  That means you have to write concise, not overly long, and entertaining entries.  Let your unique voice and personality shine, and make sure not to write entries that are too long.  Readers want to be entertained, but long articles can leave most doubting whether or not they want to read what’s written.

From there you should be able to steadily build an audience.  You want to pay attention to traffic and the amount of time the average user is on your site.  You can find resources for this through services like Google’s Analytics.  See what content inspires interest, and try and build on your good stats by writing to those strengths.

Now you should be ready to make a little money.  Use programs like Google’s Adsense, and look to websites like Amazon.com which offer payment for affiliate links.  Through these you can start earning money off the traffic from your blog.  Just remember, the longer you keep someone on the page, the more impressions and likelihood of clicks you’re going to get.  You want as much as possible of both.  With grabbing headlines and engaging content, you should be well on your way.

Learn to Write a Website Review http://itlist.com/learn-to-write-a-website-review/ http://itlist.com/learn-to-write-a-website-review/#comments Fri, 06 Nov 2009 03:15:22 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1945 Every reviewer has different reasons to write a website review. Some write it to get paid, while other write to get more traffic; yet another group of writers write it to get writing assignments. Bloggers also get paid for writing website reviews (paid review). Whatever your motivation is for writing a website review, there are certain principles that you need to follow, which you will know if you stick to this post till the end.

Elements of a website review

Introduction

A brief introduction about the purpose of the website you are going to review is very critical. In the introduction write in brief what the website is about, and give a brief history of the company and what it does. You can also mention in brief your opinion about the website.

Design

Design is the first thing anyone notice when he comes to a website. Analyze the following layout of the content and try to answer the following questions.

  • Is it too cluttered? Or is it clutter-free?
  • Does the color-scheme of the website good for the niche it operates in?
  • Is it appealing?
  • Is it easy to find information on the website?
  • Is the design SEO-friendly?

Navigation

Navigation plays an important role in the whole website. Try to answer the following question in your review.

  • Is the navigation intuitive?
  • How many clicks does it require before you can reach the desired page?
  • Are all page connected to the home page?
  • Is the website using flash, Java-script or any other scripting for the navigation?
  • How flat is the navigation? Or is it too-much layered?
  • Are there any broken link?
  • On which side of the website is the navigation?
  • Does the website have an HTML and an XML site map?
  • Is the navigation SEO-friendly?

Focus element

Focus element of the website is the core of the website, for which the website has been built. It’s the intent of the website is clear.

  • Is the intent of the website clear?
  • Does the focus element of the website express the objective?
  • How quickly can a visitor tell what the website is about?
  • What’s the website trying to accomplish?

Content

Content of a website is its lifeline. The quality of content will determine how long visitors stay on the website? The quality of the website’s content will determine if a visitor will return or not, and whether he will make a purchase or not.

  • Is the content relevant to the website? Does it serve the purpose of the website?
  • Is it well-written?
  • Does it make sense?
  • Does it contain grammatical, punctuation, or structural errors?
  • Is the content professionally written?
  • Is it SEO-friendly?

This is the basics of writing a website review. In case you need to go into more complex details when writing a website review then I will suggest you to wait till the next article comes along. Until then practice writing basic review using the elements suggested above.

Write Search Engine Friendly Content http://itlist.com/write-search-engine-friendly-content/ http://itlist.com/write-search-engine-friendly-content/#comments Sat, 03 Oct 2009 03:57:06 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1781 Writing search engine friendly content for your own website is a fine art, but one that you can excel at with some practice.  Any content that you write for a website, that you’re using to build traffic, will have to be search engine friendly if you are to succeed.  Almost all of your traffic will come from search engines like Google, Ask.com, etc.  So knowing how to write for them is not only vital, but is really your only option for success.

Of course the main key here is writing quality content, because in the end your use of keywords doesn’t matter to the reader if there isn’t real quality behind the keywords.  Start off by writing relevant content.  Write about what’s in the news right now, as most people are searching for current events when using a search engine.  Try to offer quality content, featuring your unique viewpoint and writing voice.

The best attack from there for search engine attention, is to write a variety of content about that same subject, usually articles or entries from multiple viewpoints.  Creating a wealth of content is always a good thing, just make sure all of it happens to be quality content.  Use link backs also, to the original articles that gave you the idea to write about a certain topic.  This way you benefit from traffic flowing between your site and another person’s site.  This can also serve to help you network yourself and get more attention that way as well.

From there you want to focus on the way that you’re writing.  Make sure to use keywords appropriately, the words that are directly associated to your piece are vitally important.  If you have a topic but don’t know what keywords would be best, try using a service like Google Trends to find out the most searched keywords.  This will give you a good start on what people type to find out about topics related to what you are writing.  By using those same keywords you increase the likelihood that someone will come across your site.

Why to Write a Press Release for Web http://itlist.com/why-to-write-a-press-release-for-web/ http://itlist.com/why-to-write-a-press-release-for-web/#comments Fri, 11 Sep 2009 21:39:49 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1667 Why to write a press release for web if we can publish stories about our company directly in the media section of our website? This might come to your mind, if you are not aware of the three-fold importance of submitting a press release on the web-based news wire services.

Importance of a press release

Press release helps our website in three ways:

  • It helps us inform the stake holders about the recent development in our website by setting the news out.
  • It helps us get back links to our website.
  • And the third benefit of a press release is the massive one. A press release helps us get more traffic.

A well written press release will get picked by many news publishing sites operating in your niche, which not only will give you a backlink each to your website, but it will send a constant flow of traffic as well.

SEO benefit of a press release

Everything that gets posted on the Internet can be optimized for better ranking in major search engines. Be it articles, stories, poems, videos, podcasts, images, or even a press release. Unlike the press releases written for print medium, the press release written for web is technically optimized to help the company in question get some mileage in terms of the search engine juices.

How to optimize a press release

As usual start with doing a keyword research for your niche and use it as early as you can in the first paragraph of the press release. Use the main keyword in the title of the press release as well. You should not use more than three links in the body of the press release. I will suggest using 2 links, each at a distance of at least 100 words from each other.

Avoid Adsense Scams http://itlist.com/avoid-adsense-scams/ http://itlist.com/avoid-adsense-scams/#comments Thu, 23 Apr 2009 01:58:01 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1303 With every new product that promises to make you rich, comes the realization that there is no such thing as a real get rich quick scheme, beyond being lucky and winning the lottery of course.  One of the newest, and becoming one of the most common, ways that scammers are trying to get at you now, is through Google’s Adsense program.  Promising little effort on your part, with fantastic rewards in return.  First off, never believe these, because almost anything that promises a massive amount of money for little effort is guaranteed to be completely false.

Some of the things you need to watch for are e-books that claim to have the answers to all your internet riches, hopes and dreams, as most of them are just scams to get you to pay for something you don’t really need.  There isn’t any secret to using Adsense that isn’t either already available on the internet for free, or provided by Google themselves to inform you more about how to use the program.  Be wary of anyone that wants payment for helping you learn to make money on the internet, nine times out of ten the only way that person has learned to make money is by duping people into buying a useless book.

Don’t be lured by people that want you to pay for keyword lists that are reportedly able to increase your revenue and traffic greatly.  First off because Google offers their keyword information, and secondly because there’s no such thing as a magic keyword list that will net more traffic to your site.  Sure formatting your page to involve common keywords more effectively is going to drive your traffic, but there’s no such thing as a ‘magic’ list of keywords that are ‘guaranteed’ to make you successful.

And especially don’t be lured by anyone claiming to have the one secret to Adsense wealth, because if there was one little secret that could make you an Adsense millionaire, I sincerely doubt you’d scream it from the hilltops letting everyone know.
