23 Dec 10 Tips for Website Content Writing

It’s not only web design which counts but the content too. Web design may give a good feel about the website and draw attention in the beginning, but if it lacks good content people will leave it immediately and won’t refer to it again in future. Web content writing is very important task to captivate visitors in a website, since poor content takes only few minutes to make the visitor bid adieu forever. Don’t forget even one single line of trash write up can spoil a reader’s mood. Be very careful while crafting web content. Here are few simple tips for your help.

Keep it simple and relevant

Simplicity is the key to success of web writing. Unless your message is well comprehended by all, the whole purpose of writing will go in vain. Keep it simple yet strong, crisp yet impactful, creative yet relevant. No one is interested in reading pages after pages, so keep it short but powerful, including all important things you wish to communicate to your visitor. You can’t beat around the bushes and for the sake of creativity commit the mistake of losing focus. Stick to your topic, stay relevant.

It should be informative

Often web contents are seen repetitive, vague, and lacking concrete substance. But if a website is not informative, doesn’t convey anything meaningful even a good style of writing can go wasted. So, know what all to be included, what are the important points and include them all. Don’t beat around the bushes.

Make it tightly knit and avoid disconnection

Structure your write up properly, in a smooth flow moving from one thought to another. One sentence should be well connected to the next, but shouldn’t convey the same thing. A well-knit writing with a smooth flow will make reading pleasurable and beneficial for the reader. There shouldn’t be any disconnection. Many writers often use too many conjunctions to make the write up well-knit. But conjunctions show writer’s weakness. Instead, you may change paragraphs to convey different things.

Next time keep these few simple tips in mind while writing web content. It will be easier for you to craft captivating and effective web content.

18 Jul 09 More Tips To Go Green At The Office

Going green in the office involves more than just conserving power while you’re at work.  That’s all well and good for helping the environment, but that doesn’t help with the amount of trash you’re producing.  Not to mention the amount of new products coming in that don’t comply with good recycling standards.  Which is exactly why to really go green at your office, you need to keep an eye on everything that you’re doing, throwing out, and bringing in to your workplace.  Sounds like a daunting task, but it’s not as difficult as you may think.

Start out by just paying better attention to the label on the products that you buy.  Most stores, like Office Max or Office Depot, will offer a list of products located at the store that are considered more environmentally friendly.  Try to stick to these lists for anything you purchase, as these products are usually much less harsh on the environment to produce, and tend to biodegrade faster.

For your printer, either use a reusable printer cartridge, so that you can just refill it when you run out of ink, or purchase remanufactured printer cartridges.  Either option is recycling and will save a ton of extra plastic from being just wasted and dropped into the local landfill to rot.

Concerning the paper for your printer, try to stick to PCR, post-consumer recycled, paper.  This way you are using paper that is almost 100% recycled content, and as long as you remain good about recycling the paper that you use, you are greatly reducing the amount of resources lost producing and then maintaining that paper.

Finally, try to cut out using paper at all.  Purchase an external hard drive, or even a big flash drive, as a back up device for your important information.  This way you can protect your information without burning through a lot of paper to keep your sensitive info on file.

29 Apr 09 Turn Your Office Into An Environmentally Friendly Zone

With all the talk of global warming, most of us are  looking for ways that we can reduce our own carbon footprint.  You know, that one we’ve been stamping across the face of the earth for our entire lives.  Although most people don’t take the time, there are plenty of ways that you can easily do that, and also greatly reduce the negative effect you’re having on the environment.  Essentially just by changing your workstation into a more eco-friendly set-up, you‘re already taking a huge step in the right direction.  And the first thing you’ll want to keep in mind while setting up either your home workstation or your office, is in looking for products that meet common green technology standards.

First off you want computers and monitors with easy to replace parts and accessories.  That way if something breaks down you can easily replace and repair the computer parts, and save that PC for longer.  The longer you can get your PC to function at the top level, the longer it’s not rotting in a landfill polluting the environment more than it already is in your office.

Also try and find as much refurbished technology as possible, as this is simple recycling in itself.  That way you’re still purchasing quality items for your office, but also reusing someone else’s unwanted technology.  Anything that keeps trash from building up is a positive move to make, and the earth will thank you for it in her own way.

When outfitting your office or home workstation with furniture, you want to look for products that contain recycled steel, plastic, and wood.  That way no new trees or resources need to be exhausted for something as humble as your desk or chair.  Which is also why, like with the technology, you want to find refurbished products if at all possible.  Refurbished is as good as new, and much better for mother earth.

Also remember to do the important energy saving techniques that benefit even existing workstations that may not exactly conform to eco-friendly standards in their current condition.  Such as changing the settings on your computer so that the machine will automatically go to sleep when not in use, therefore expending much less energy.  Or if you don’t use your computer for much else than work, you could also use the energy settings to change how much processor power you use at any one time.  If you don’t need all of your processor’s power to accomplish your tasks, you may as well save the energy that’s wasted from extra speed that you don’t need.

Use natural light as much as possible by opening the shades on your windows, instead of using artificial light all day.  This will greatly change the amount of power you waste by not having lights running that you don’t need.

Print only when absolutely necessary.  It’s the information age, there’s almost nothing you can’t transmit electronically, so help save a tree by making sure you don’t waste massive excesses of paper for documents you don’t really need to print.  But then, when you do need to print and eventually run out of ink, refill the cartridge instead of buying a new one.  That will greatly reduce the amount of plastic you’re throwing away, and plastic isn’t exactly biodegradable, so again, you’ll be greatly helping the environment by wasting less.

And saving the environment is after all, the name of the game, at least until we have the technology to relocate to another habitable planet in this galaxy or the next.  But at this point and time, that’s just out of our reach, so just to be safe, be as green as possible for the time being.  Don’t forget, conserving energy conserves cash you don’t have to shell out on your electrical bill.
