01 Dec 09 Work More Efficiently

Working more efficiently means changing your work lifestyle a bit, to promote a positive professional attitude.  Being an efficient worker means having the right attitude, in addition to ability.  A big part of that is creating the best opportunity for yourself to succeed by manipulating the things around you that are within your control.

Start out by keeping your atmosphere organized.  That means not leaving papers to lay around your office area.  You’ll feel more like working if you have a clean organized environment.  So make sure to keep the area clean, and organize your files as you receive them.  Better to organize now than let clutter pile up later.

Go through that email inbox faster by prioritizing your messages.  See what can be ignored, or put off until later, and what needs to be taken care of immediately.  This way you can skim through your inbox quickly, no matter how many emails are stuffed within.  Quickly going through your email is the best way to save time and get to the real projects.

Try to finish your tasks one at a time.  Switching between too many different things leaves you with many started projects, and no finished ones.  The best strategy is always to finish one task before you start another one.  That way you devote your attention fully to the matter at hand, completing it faster, and freeing yourself for the next project.

Make a schedule that you can easily adhere to.  One that provides for getting all your work done, and going above and beyond the call of duty.  That way you have your day planned, and all of your tasks mapped.  You can get what needs to be done out of the way, quickly and efficiently.  Freeing you up for extra opportunities to shine.

Finally, remember to take breaks.  Taking a break might sound counter productive, especially when you’re trying to be efficient.  But making sure you’re not stressed out is the best way to stay hard working and efficient.  So don’t be afraid to walk away from the work station for a few minutes to work those stresses away.
