If one knows and masters few tricks of effective door-to-door sales, it’s no big deal. Here are few effective tips for you.

Do not be too pushy

People hate salespersons that are too pushy and keep on nagging to sell. They are sure turn offs. Never consider your prospects as a disposal box of your product. If you find your prospect is not interested in your product, leave it there. If you become too pushy, you may end up losing the prospect forever and incur bad perception of your brand.

Don’t lose hope

With a failed trial or series of trials do not lose hope, it will show on your face and you may appear boring, sad and cold to a good prospect too. If you are not enthusiastic about your product or service, you can’t expect your prospect to find interest in it too. Staying motivated from street to door, under every circumstance, every atmosphere is important as it’s you who are ‘face’ of the brand. So appear enthusiastic, pleasant, motivated, and persuasive. Remember, your prospect is literally a ‘prospect’ for you, not your customer, so don’t expect him or her to be too receptive. They are the people who are not actively looking for your product and your visit is unexpected, interfering. Conversion rate in this type of sale is low, so accept the fact. In a failed attempt, just think it was a bad one and move on to the next with a winning attitude. Celebrate each successful sale, and stay motivated.

Little planning can be helpful

Rather than being random and ringing all doorbells on your way, with piled up rates of failure why don’t you start planning a bit and secure more chances of success? Good planning and research may help you. Know who is your target audience, where they are located, what promise they expect from you, what is their trust level, when are they available and receptive to your presentation, what motivates them etc. Choose locations accordingly. So before starting with your sales call do a thorough research on the demography and psychograph of the desired target group. Also, do not reach them in inappropriate time. Strike a balance between quantity and quality of calls.

And you are there. Go and shoot, win and celebrate.

How to Overcome Fear of Success? http://itlist.com/how-to-overcome-fear-of-success/ http://itlist.com/how-to-overcome-fear-of-success/#comments Sun, 05 Dec 2010 14:43:27 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/how-to-overcome-fear-of-success/ Many of us suffer from the fear of success. It’s a realistic problem with many of us which needs to be checked, yet it’s not that grave matter which seeks psycho-analyst’s guidance. Just addressing the problem and following few tips can solve this problem. Here are some tips for your help.

Get to the root

Remember, it’s all in your mind and your mind controls all your actions and thoughts. So, if you can control your mind, all will fall in place. Do soul searching. Ask yourself if you are scared of rejection. Do you dare to take risk? Remember, risk taking attitude is a must for an entrepreneur and an entrepreneur with right set of attitude and talent draws success. Do you wish to be different from others always? Do you fear popularity? Get to know yourself, what you want and at the cost of what? What’s your dream? How far can you go to achieve your dreams? Find out what makes you scared of success and avoid it? Don’t be harsh to yourself; just find out what scares you.

Prepare yourself

Prepare yourself, right now. Don’t blame your destiny if you are not welcomed by opportunities. Opportunities only reach people who are prepared. If you are prepared, you will be awaiting success, not fearing it anymore. Just get into the mode of giving your 100%, success will follow automatically. If you make the first effort, second effort will be easier. Also stay consistent. Failure shouldn’t stop you. Keep on giving your best every time. Success can be late, but not impossible to attain. Practice will make your perfect too. And it will also boost your self-confidence and sharpen your skills. So don’t fear practice and preparation session, it’s a stepping stone towards future.

Do it now

Talking doesn’t help. It may boost your confidence and keep you motivated. But it’s doing that makes the difference in reality. So get started, right now. Dream will remain dream only if you don’t work towards achieving it. Don’t fear mistakes. Just start. Know what it takes to achieve your target and success.

Life may not give you a second chance. So go for it, give your best. Cherish success. Don’t let the fear of success control your life. Crumble it into pieces for once and forever. Just a fear can’t take away your share of success. Face it.

What’s Stopping You from Being a Successful Freelance Writer? http://itlist.com/whats-stopping-you-from-being-a-successful-freelance-writer/ http://itlist.com/whats-stopping-you-from-being-a-successful-freelance-writer/#comments Sat, 07 Aug 2010 16:58:00 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/whats-stopping-you-from-being-a-successful-freelance-writer/ Have you ever asked this question? And if you did what was the answer? Was it related to your skills, or your attitude, or your perception?

I am asking this question because these are the things that stop most of the people from making it big in the freelance writing career. Let’s examine each one of them so that we can get idea about what to avoid, and make it big as a freelance writer.

Do not know enough

This is a classic trap that engulfs everyone who has self doubt about one’s quality. It makes you believe that you are not qualified enough for the job. You should, therefore, stay clear of the job, and should never even try to get closer.

I have this to tell you about “the skill” problem: no one is too qualified or too less qualified for the freelance writing job, or for any other job. We all, indeed, have shortcomings, but those are mere matter of proper training, and some research, which is easier these days than it ever was in the history of mankind.

I have no time

This is another classic excuse. People always complain about lack of time for following their dream. They say they are too busy working in the offices, managing their families, and securing better life for kids and spouses. Sure they are very important, but these things could not be a reason for your “I do not have time” mindset. What is behind this “no time” mentality is the lack of organization and schedule. Make a schedule for writing, and stick to it. When I say make a schedule, I do not mean to suggest making a schedule for writing daily. It could be for weekends as wells.

There is no future in it

This is a very short sighted reply I have heard from the freelance writing quitters. They say why join freelance writing. There is no future in it. I will suggest them to look outside the window, take binoculars if needed, and see how the media is operating — online as well as real world. They all source content, and a large portion of content is sourced from freelance writers. They is future in it, dude.

What else is stopping you from taking a freelance writing career? Waiting to hear from you.

Tips for Effective Time Management http://itlist.com/tips-for-effective-time-management/ http://itlist.com/tips-for-effective-time-management/#comments Wed, 28 Jul 2010 03:31:56 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2565 Time is one such element which has always evoked mystery, has not stopped for any one. One universal truth – it’s truly beyond anyone’s control. Many of us fail to keep pace with it, often complain about not being able to cope with it and find 24 hours too less for a day. Well, that’s where the need for time management comes. It just takes few techniques to make the best out of 24 hours and accomplish the more throughout a day. Taming the time under own control is possible with these valuable time management tips. Take a look.

  1. Most important criteria for effective time management is organized self. Initially it may be difficult. But try to build up daily ‘to do list’. Such daily planner will keep you organized and disciplined too. Also prioritize events with star mark, which need to be done first.
  2. Get rid off your lazy attitude and pushing things for the next day. What needs to be done in the morning should be done, rather than unnecessarily pushing it to evening or next day. Adhere to your time table, it will keep you stress-free.
  3. If your job asks for big decision, take it as soon as possible rather than avoiding it. Avoiding problems won’t solve them. Act now. Examine the problem, go to its root cause, find solution and execute confidently. Don’t be afraid of risks.
  4. If you are a team worker and you have authority to delegate work, do it effectively. Keep those tasks for yourself which seek your special involvement and attention. Less important tasks you can distribute among your team members. It will help you in managing work pressure and also perform better with good team involvement. Distribution of work load and responsibility will keep all happy.
  5. Take good care of your health. You can perform your duties effectively only when you are mentally and physically fit. So don’t neglect your diet, sleep and mental well being. If your hobbies or your family keep you happy, spend your spare time with them. It will keep you at ease. Don’t forget, happiness is key to success.
  6. Stress is integral part of daily life. But physical activities like sports, exercises, swimming, yoga, cycling, and running help one reduce stress and stay fit. Include them in your daily life. If a spa indulgence or massage helps you to de-stress, go for it.

With these tips you will find time is your best friend and it’s so easy to walk hand in hand with it.

Why So Many Freelance Writers Fail? http://itlist.com/why-so-many-freelance-writers-fail/ http://itlist.com/why-so-many-freelance-writers-fail/#comments Sun, 04 Apr 2010 17:52:00 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/why-so-many-freelance-writers-fail/ Many people start their freelance writing career with all gusto, but soon more than 97 percent of them are out of business. Why? What some of them succeed and rest does not? In this blog post, I will attempt to answer that.

Freelance writing is not easy

It indeed is not tough, but it is not easy. To succeed in this, you will have to put in hours and hours of labor every single day, without failing. Then only you will see any result. This is not a field in which you will enter, rake in moola, and leave. This is not a get-rich-quick industry. You have to struggle here, burn midnight oil, and learn continuously. People who fail in this industry, come here with a make-money-quick scheme, and get frustrated when faced with the reality. Writing is not easy, but it will become easier, eventually.

Lack of perseverance

You have to invest so many hours before you get hang of things around here. When you are new, the well may look dark, and the road may look narrower, but there is a wide clearing on the other side that awaits only those who persist. Persistence is the key. Keep fighting. Say this to yourself:

If any one person can do this then be that ME!

Lack of determination is the thing that pushes people away from this writing.

No devotion to learning

If you thought learning stopped the day you got the job, or the day you got the gig then you are in the wrong field. Rather, there is no such field out there in which you will not require to read. Learning is not an event, it is a process which never stops. People who fail are those who do not want to invest time for learning.

I do not believe it is the lack of talent which creates hindrance in the road to the high hills of success. It is the attitude that stops us from that.

If you want to have faith in one thing, have faith on your selection. This will solve half of the problems.

Job Searching Right Out Of College http://itlist.com/job-searching-right-out-of-college/ http://itlist.com/job-searching-right-out-of-college/#comments Mon, 04 Jan 2010 18:55:36 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=2152 Finding an entry level position out of college is essential.  That’s the first major step into making the career you’ve been planning, become a reality.  But finding an entry level position when you’re just out of college isn’t always easy.  Especially in this economy the road has become increasingly hard for student starting out and starting their career paths.

Your fist tactic should always be networking.  Before you leave college make sure that you’ve got your name out there to the right people.  You want to stay in contact and make yourself known to a few of the select students around you, and your professors.  They will be a great resource for work down the line, so remember that, and keep those relationships avenues open.

Keep networking outside of school.  Try professional sites like linkedIn, etc, that offer connections with other professionals in the field.  Create lasting professional relationships, as these are where the best jobs will come from.  Companies frequently don’t openly advertise their best positions, and the only way you’ll hear about them is through somebody that you know.

Try your local newspaper, you won’t find fantastic jobs here most of the time, but you will find some decent options to pad your resume and provide income in transition.  Usually jobs advertised in a local newspaper don’t have a high applicant rate, so your chances of landing the job will also be better.

Finally, remember to stay professional.  Whether networking, or applying to the jobs, keep your demeanor professional, as your attitude says a lot about what manner of employee you will be at that company.  One of the biggest complaints about college graduates in the job market lately is that they have a false sense of entitlement.

Many recent grads almost feel as though a high paying job should be instantly available to them.  But that isn’t the case.  You have to work at a company and career to make it succeed, sometimes from the lower ranks of the ladder.  Stay courteous and polite always, be proud and confident, but also humble and realistic.  You don’t want to come off as a cocky self important applicant, because companies tend to stay away from them.  They aren’t hard workers, and they have no long term loyalty.  Both bad strikes to have against you.

3 Ways to Mess up With Your Client http://itlist.com/3-ways-to-mess-up-with-your-client/ http://itlist.com/3-ways-to-mess-up-with-your-client/#comments Tue, 15 Dec 2009 03:05:40 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=2097 It is not easy to get a client, but it is quite easy to lose one. Just do one wrong thing and you are out of luck. In this article, I will tell you how you can ascertain that your clients leave you and they suck the money dry from your business.

Argue with your client

Argue with your clients, and do it fiercely, if you want them to go out with all their money. This will save you from all the chasings that you do every month. It will help you stay at home for the whole week, months, and years. Arguing with client over big or small issues is a surefire way to agonize them.

Tell them [heck] you are right

You know their business better than they themselves do. After all, you are a sales person than why the goddamn client should say you are not right. You are hell right, and you know that. This meeting is now your opportunity to tell them how write you are and how hopelessly wrong your client is. Teach them a lesson or tom if you want him to go away from you for rest of his life.

Talk, talk, and talk

Listening is a bad thing. Who said you should listen to your client? And why should you do that Listening is for those who do not research their client. ? Does not your client know how much time you have invested in researching his need? Is there any way on this planet in which he could possibly know more about himself they you now do after hours and hours of research?
You are not here to listen to him, but to tell him how great your product is and how it can help him solve his problems. He should better listen to you. This attitude will surely push off your client sooner than you would have expected.

Afterthought

I know you would not like to push your customers off then why do you adopt one or all three of the above written steps? No presentation works. Try to engage your client in discussion.

5 More Ways to Improve Your Writing Part-VII http://itlist.com/5-more-ways-to-improve-your-writing-part-vii/ http://itlist.com/5-more-ways-to-improve-your-writing-part-vii/#comments Sat, 26 Sep 2009 20:38:39 +0000 bikram http://itlist.com/?p=1756 In this episode of the mini-series 5 ways to improve your writing, I will talk about you. Yes, about you and about your habits that are stopping you from being a better writer. Let’s go straight to see what changes you need to bring in you to become a better writer.

One task at a time

Multi-tasking is not always good. Not at least when you are trying to write something. You should de-clutter your surrounding and focus on one thing at a time. This way you will be able to produce a quality work. Mono-tasking is what you should be aspiring for. Set some time aside to write without interruption.

Recognize your fear and overcome it

We all have fear of failure, but at the same time we can even give credit to these unwarranted fears for some of our big successes; still I will not suggest harboring any fear. You should know what you are scared of, and work on eliminating those objects or subjects. If the problem is skill related then you should take a course or undergo a training that will help you overcome that fear, and if it is attitude related then make yourself strong and ward the fear off.

Wake and write

The very first thing that you do in the morning should be writing. This is the hour of the day when you will have very little on the mind, so you can focus more at that time. Try doing it tomorrow, and see the difference.

Do not wait for the deadline

You cannot produce a world class article, news, or story when a sword of deadline is hanging over your head. You should start writing days in advance, do not wait for the deadline to show its ugly face before you write for a client.

Introduce yourself as a writer

Tell people that you are a writer. This will be a good confidence booster. Whenever you meet people, do not beat around the bushes, come straight forward, shake their hands and say you write.  Isn’t it a very simple way to boost your morale?

Make The Most Of An Internship http://itlist.com/make-the-most-of-an-internship/ http://itlist.com/make-the-most-of-an-internship/#comments Thu, 10 Sep 2009 19:45:31 +0000 SamElli http://itlist.com/?p=1657 An internship is an invaluable opportunity to learn and also network yourself, so once you get the opportunity, don’t make a mistake.  The worst thing you could do is to forget just how important a chance this is to make a name for yourself.  Not only are you there to volunteer your time to gain valuable career skills.  But also an internship is about making friends within the industry, and if you prove to be very good at what you do, an internship could turn into a job offer.  So the key is to take advantage of those chances, and here are a few tips to do just that.

First off, and I can’t stress this enough, dress the part.  If you’re interning at a big time corporation, and you see the rest of the interns dressed anything but professionally, do not follow their example.  Buttoned shirt and tie should be a no brainer for every day that you are there to intern.  This way your appearance meets your attitude, creating a good impression that you are there to work and to learn.  That’s what companies want.

Get to work before the boss.  That way you can show that you are committed to the tasks at hand, as well as learning everything you can.  A boss will put more into your internship if you show the initiative to take advantage of everything they have on offer.

Know the easy stuff, like making coffee, working a copier and fax, the simple office tasks in and out.  There’s a certain amount of grunt work that interns are meant to do, and all of these fall into those categories.  The faster you can work through them, the faster you can get down to the real aspects of your job.

Finally, do the best you can.  Internships are really you volunteering your time, but don’t think that just because you aren’t being paid you shouldn’t work hard.  Being a hard worker with a good attitude and willingness to get the job done will put you into the memory of your coworkers and boss.  That can be invaluable when you’re looking to get a job somewhere down the line.  Not to mention top performers in internship positions can even be offered full time positions from the companies they are interning with.  Work hard and you just may get yourself a job.
