30 Jan 10 A Job-Search Guide to Help People Over 45 – III

I hope you have followed the tips I shared in the previous two posts of the series (Links to Part 1 and Part 2 are here). In this post, I am going to give you 3 more valuable tips that will help you defy your age and get a job.

Enroll for some classes

If you feel that you are lagging in some subjects, which is critical for your professional success then you should consider enrolling for them. Alternatively, you can also take some refresher classes to brush up your skills. Is it the MS Excel that poses challenge, or is it the new sales forecasting and management software? Or do you feel left out because of the CAD software? Whatever it is, you can work on it. All you need is a bit of conviction.

Do not subscribe to useless lies

The world is full of people looking on the either side of the glass (half-full and half-empty types), and there are a few who looks at the rim and brim of the glass as well. You do not have to subscribe to any of such believes. The world is full of lies concerning 40+ not getting jobs; you should not concern yourself with any of these. Be prepared and get ahead in the line. You will get a job.

Use technology

Gone are the days when the newspaper and trade journals were major sources to find a job, now job-search has become digital. Web is common place now, and so are the devices to access it. You should embrace this technology and use various job portals to search and apply for jobs. There are some niche job portals that cater to the needs of mid-aged job searchers only; you can use them as well.

These tips, though look simple, are very useful. You should work on these and witness the positive results it brings.
