Written by:

We all are aware of the goodness of facial sessions; how rejuvenating and good they are for our tired, dead skin. But many of us hardly hit a beauty salon fearing a hole in the pocket, time wastage and at times even doubting upon the chemicals they use. But the good news is, you can still do a facial at home. It will not take much time, you can choose ingredients of your own choice and suitable for your skin type and last but not the least it won’t make you bankrupt. So try our home facial regime once a week and discover your new glowing skin.

Step-by-step guide to home facials

  1. First of all, clean your face. Wash your face with mild soap or face wash gel. Make sure there’s no makeup left on your face. If you want to try hand on homemade cleanser, mix 1-2 table spoon of milk with olive oil. Massage it into skin and use mild warm water to wash it off. If you have oily skin doesn’t use milk and oil combination. You can try tomato juice too. It’s an excellent cleansing agent. Rinse it all over your face and then wash it off.
  2. Now it’s time to open the blocked pores of your skin. Boil water. You can add calming herbs like mint, calendula, and lavender in the water. Instead you can also choose 2-3 drops of essential oils like lavender, rose. Cover your head with a towel and bend over the boiling pot. Let your face feel the steam all over. You can also use a simple process like warming a clean wet cloth in the microwave and placing it all over your face. It will open all blocked pores.
  3. Get the black and white heads out with the blackhead removal tool. Because of steaming they will be much visible on surface now. Don’t press too hard it may damage your skin texture.
  4. It’s time for a facial mask now. Clay based masks are good for oily skin; whereas dry skin can opt for hydrating gel or creamy masks. You can also make a mask at home. Dry and normal skin can be rejuvenated with a homemade mask of honey and yoghurt. One can also prepare a facial mask by mixing oatmeal, honey and egg. While applying the mask avoid the eye areas. Let it dry for about 15 minutes and then wipe off with a clean warm wash cloth or sponge.
  5. Now your skin needs a gentle exfoliation. Use an exfoliation scrub or go for a home made recipe. Make a paste of oatmeal with water. Mix one spoon of soda, honey and olive oil in it. Put all over your face and rub gently in a circular motion. Put pressure around the nose and temple areas. Rinse with water and wipe off with the warm wash cloth.
  6. Now apply a toner all over your face.
  7. Last, but not the least; moisturize your face. Before going to bed you can put olive oil all over your face, specially around wrinkle prone areas surrounding eyes. Lightly pat your face dry.
