Has the recession aftected the way family unit is organized in the Untited States? Is it the recession that forced 1 in every 10 kids live with his or her grandparent (s)? An analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau data done by Pew Research Center suggest that it is so.

the U.S. Census Bureau data indicats that there has been a sharp rise in number of kids staying with their grandparent or grandparents between 2007 and 2008. In 2000, total number of American children living with their grandparnets was 2.5 million, wich rose to 2.9 million in 2008. ThIere has been a sharp rise of 6% in this figure between 2007 and 2008.

It has been found that 41% of children (4 out of every 10) who live with their grandparents are also raised by the grandparents only. In the analyzed period (between 2000 and 2008), the number of grandparents functioning as a prinary caregiver to the American kids has also increased to 2.8 million in 2008 from 2.4 million in 2004, which is an 8% increase. 5% of which has increased between 2007 and 2008. 02 May 10 Credit Card Reform Wrong footed the US Consumers

Credit card reform was one of the many steps taken by Pres. Obama to pull the US economy from the ugly jaw of recession that engulfed many innocent families taking away countless many jobs. People were cheerful about it, but now as the promise had been acted upon and the law has been put in place, people are not cheerful. People are confused, angry, and ambivalent about it, as found by the Nielsen Company in a study.

Nielsen BuzzMetrics has done a thorough study to gauge the mood of the consumers, and for that the company sieve through 45,000 Usenet forums, 8,000 discussion forums, and 135 million blogs. According to the Nielsen Company, the main focus was on finding the following:

  • How are consumers reacting?
  • How are card companies communicating changes?
  • What actions do consumers plan to take?
  • Who is to blame?
  • Which companies are being implicated?

The study revealed that buzz related to Credit Card Act tipped off big time in May 2009, and it continued making round until it petered out n February 2010, when the law was put into effect. (See image for trend).

People who went gaga on the announcement of Credit Card Act 2009 started to oppose it when Obama signed the bill to make it a law. People have many complains ranging from having not enough protection to fear of misuse by the company, etc. Only time will tell how justified this fear is, meanwhile see the image below to get the complete data.

22 Jan 10 Avoid Being Burnt Out By Your Job

Getting jaded by your job is no good.  Makes you hate your job, and makes the work you have to slog through all the more difficult.  In a recession, where finding a new job is extremely difficult, you can’t really afford feeling burnt out at your job.  Managing your work, and environment is key to staying happy, and productive at your job.

Plan and prioritize your projects so that you don’t feel overwhelmed by having too many things to do at the last minute.  Figure out what you need to complete now, so that you can push a few things off until later.  By creating a schedule ladder of importance, you can focus on the tasks and complete them with plenty of time.  Taking the stress off, allowing you to relax a bit, and keeping you happy as well as productive.

Remember to take your breaks.  Even if you have a ton of work, and you want to skip a break to work through it, don’t!  Skipping your breaks will only make you feel more disheartened and overwhelmed.  Take that break so you can get some fresh air, maybe a cup of coffee, and relax for a few minutes.  You’ll feel better, and will work more effectively when you resume your duties.

Know when to ask for help.  Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s just finding a solution to a problem that you can’t solve yourself at the moment.  What’s worse that having to ask for help, is not getting your work done because you didn’t.  Failing on your own instead of succeeding with help should never sound like the better option.

Always stay polite and courteous no matter what.  Keeping in a positive mind with a positive attitude is the best way to work through the problematic times.  By staying positive you’ll feel better, as will the people around you.  You’ll all get more done, and you’ll be much less apt to get overwhelmed, or feel unhappy at your job.
