These days everybody is on social networking sites, especially Facebook and Twitter. And so are the brands. Every brand wants fans, followers and millions of online prospects. So these days, brands rope in digital marketers to popularize the brand further on internet, and make the most of social networking benefits. But at times marketers themselves try hand on the same and commit few common mistakes, as discussed below.

Too many pages for a single brand

At times marketers wish to draw more and more followers and create multiple pages, to reflect omnipresence. Imagine Mc. Donald’s having 10 Facebook pages, how many of them will you follow? One or two at the most and that too if it is localized, suppose it says Mc. Donald’s (Japan) or something like that. But soon you may start getting too many updates from both and eventually stop following one of them. Thus to stay on the safer side, create only one page for your brand, people are not on social networking sites solely for you. You will have more number of followers in such case.

Too often updates

At times being a beginner and too excited about the whole thing of social networking brands end up doing too frequent status updates, like changing status message every couple of hours. Don’t forget such things are always annoying for the followers who find their home page cluttered with your messages, and if they end up liking or commenting for any of them, then they may get endless number of notifications from the same. Do not do this. No one wants a cluttered page and full of brand messages. Remember, that person added you since likes you, not to get annoyed with you. So instead of torturing with brand messages, keep updates not more than twice in a day.

Do not talk just for the sake of talking

It is often seen marketers fail to think what to talk on a particular day and eventually end up talking senseless things and write updates just for the sake of writing like ‘Hello, Good morning. How are you all’. How many people will be interested in such a message coming from a brand? A handful may be, since they may have nothing else to do in life. So instead of writing rubbish things, write something which adds value, draws interest and attracts the followers. You may write a status message talking about special discount or latest achievement or the new advertisement you are coming up with or the new outlet you are about to open. You can also conduct polls and contests. Ask for suggestion on some products which always draw lot of attention. If there is a good incentive people are all the more interested in such activities.

Everyone has a website these days, but every website is not attractive? Why is it so? All websites have typical website structure, yet fail miserably in terms of appeal and level of interest grabbing. Have you ever thought why some websites simply put you off and you never want to get back to it? Here are some reasons what makes a website draw thumbs down.

Poor Layout

Foremost reason for a website to fall flat on its face is its poorly designed layout. A poorly designed layout may not only appear bad, but also lack proper user friendly structure, legibility. Many people try to save little amount of money by putting all information in a page and cluttering the webpage to the maximum level. Such layouts ask reader to scroll down and find entire information; which is highly annoying for the reader. It looks like a novel, especially when the content is long.

Poor color combination

It’s often seen that few websites consist of bright and warm colors just for the sake of drawing attention. Such color schemes like warm red with bright yellow may surely draw initial attention, but will immediately put off a reader. He may get a headache too if exposed to such colors for long and soon leave the website. Play safe with colors, know which colors are complimentary and most importantly do justice to the website or brand. Suppose it’s a pharmaceutical company’s website, you can’t afford to keep it flashy red. If you have a corporate color you may use the same, to build your brand identity on web.

Poor content

Often people think writing is a job that anyone can do and they themselves try writing, while abandoning the entire purpose of the website. Even if it costs to you, make sure you get the web content written by some expert. Make several tabs for content under different headers and make sure it’s not too lengthy. Crisp, simple yet interesting text always works. Make sure you don’t go abstract in your communication and people can easily locate your purpose behind the communication.

Complex URL

Several times people think of a complex name for their website or end up choosing a rare URL for unavailability of the simple ones. Instead of going for a real rare and complex name choose a simple and easy to remember name with .ORG or .NET or .UK and the like for availability sake. An easy URL is not only remembered but also talked about and passed on from one person to another.

Keep these faults in mind, and you will never end up making the same mistake like those not so good websites.

Don’t talk just for the sake of talking

It’s often noticed that people talk during the group discussion session, just for the sake of grabbing attention. It makes one look stupid and also shows lack of depth of knowledge. Talk only when you know enough about the topic in hand and you are confident. If you are not sure of yourself, wait for others to start, find clues from their conversations and then raise your voice. Don’t talk pointlessly, trying hard to prove a point.

Don’t shout to make a point

Just to get heard among many heads often participants end up shouting on top of their voice to prove a point. Wait for the right opportunity, raise your hand and state your point. If someone interrupts in middle, ask the person to wait and let you finish first. Shouting just to get noticed and beat others will create sheer confusion and chaos.

Stick to the point

Often we deviate from the main issue and stretch the topic too far. Don’t go far away from the main topic in hand. If the topic is controversial and raises lot of discussion, talk either in favor or against the topic in hand. Don’t keep switching between the two. Make sure you stick to your point and don’t go stretch it too far. Maintain the time limit.

Good start, great end

We often think it’s important to grab attention in the beginning only and thus put maximum energy in starting the group discussion rather than concluding nicely towards the end. Never commit this mistake. First impression is definitely the last impression, but an end moment fuss or ambiguity can tarnish the whole thing. So make sure, you are not only noticed in the beginning, but also equally heard and noticed towards the end. When time comes towards end, nicely wrap your message in an impressive conclusion. It will help you to leave a long lasting impression.
